本短語中的 let go of 應視作完整的及物動詞，等於 release，均表“釋放”。

理論上，let go of 是由 let your hand go of (此處 of 等於from) 演變而成，實際上卻只能使用 let go of 這個短語。例如：

Let go of my hand, or I'll call the police.

= Release my hand, or I'll call the police.

(放開我的手，否則我要報警了。)

As soon as the policeman let go of him, the boy ran away.

(警察一把這男孩放開，他就跑了。)

Don't let go of the rope until I tell you to.

(在我沒叫你鬆手之前，你不要放鬆那繩子。)

補充：let go of something後面也可以接抽象的事物，of something可以省略。
