  有關經典的英語故事:驢和買驢的人

A man wanted to buy an ass. He went to the market, and saw a likely one. But he wanted totest him first.

So he took the ass home, and put him into the stable with the other asses. The new asslooked around, and immediately went to choose a place next to the laziest ass in the stable.

When the man saw this he put a halter on the ass at once, and gave him back to his owner.

The owner felt quite surprised. He asked the man, "Why are you back so soon? Have youtested him already?" "I don't want to test him any more," replied the man, "From thecompanion he chose for himself, I could see what sort of animal he is."

New York city: It's a cold day in December. A little boy about 10-year-old was standing in frontof a shoe store on Broadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.A lady approached the boy and said:"My little fellow, why are you looking so earnestly in thatwindow?"

"I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes." The boy replied.

The lady took him by the hand and went into the store, and asked the clerk to get a half dozenpairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. Theclerk quickly brought them to her. She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and,removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel. By thistime the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she thenpurchased him a pair of shoes, and tying up the remaining pairs of socks, gave them to theboy. She patted him on the head and said:"No doubt, my little fellow, you feel more comfortablemow?"

As she turned to go, the astonished lad caught her by the hand, and looking up in her face,with tears in his eyes, answered the question with these words:"Are you God's wife?"

"Ten steps from the porch and twenty steps from the rose bushes," growled Bluebeard inJimmy's dream one night. "There be treasure there! Aawrgh."

So the next day Jimmy began to dig. He dug until the hole was deep and the dirt pile was kept digging. The hole got deeper and the dirt pile got higher.

He dug until the hole was deepest and the dirt pile was at its highest. He sighed. "I'm too tired.I can't dig anymore." Then he spied something.

but it was only one of Woofy's bones. Instead of treasure, all Jimmy had was a dog bone, ahole, and a big pile of dirt to fill it in with. He thought "That pirate lied to me!"

But when Jimmy's mother saw what he had done, she clasped her hands and smiled a smilefrom here to Sunday. "Oh, thank you, Jimmy. I always wanted a rhododendron bush plantedjust there. Here's $5.00 for digging that hole."
