西塘是一個具有一千多年曆史的水鄉古鎮，保存完好的明清時期建築羣是其他旅遊景點所無法相比的。徜徉古鎮街頭，使人們彷彿置身於一副美麗的水墨畫之中。河兩岸高聳的粉牆和水中清晰的瓦房倒影，還有那在微風裏婆娑搖曳的楊柳，似乎都在爲這個古鎮增添着異彩和生機。

在這個寧靜的水鎮裏，生活的腳步似乎完全聽命於那淌着潺潺流水的河流。西塘可以說是水的同義詞。這裏的河流是那樣的蜿蜒曲折、波光粼粼，映射出一派寧靜祥和的街景。夜幕降臨，河岸邊數千盞燈籠與晚霞一併點燃，把整個小鎮映襯得燈火通明，爲鎮民們照亮了回家的路。

Xitang is a time-honored riverside town boasting a history of more than 1,000 years, whose well-preserved buildings from Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty are unmatched by any other resorts. Roaming in the town streets, you feel as if you were in a picturesque Chinese ink painting. The soaring white-washed walls on both sides of the rivers and the clear reflection of tile-roofed houses in the water, the willows swinging and dancing in the breeze all add splendor and vigor to the town.

In the serene riverside town, the pace of life is entirely subject to the gentle flow of the tinkling streams. The town is the synonym of water. The winding rivers with sprinkling ripples reflect the tranquil street scenes. The fall of night ignites thousands of lanterns along the riverbanks and the sunset glow as well, which then sets the town ablaze with light and illuminates the way home for the town residents.
