講解：美國早年開發西部時期，要將西部草原上長成的菜牛運到東部市場，這全靠牛仔們爬山涉水趕着牛羣一直到鐵路附近，然後把牛裝上火車運走。牛爬山涉水往往勞累不堪，因而怒氣沖天地吼叫起來。後來，該習語比喻爲“發牢騷”。
