I was up the next morning before the October sunrise, and away through the wild and thewoodland. The rising of the sun was noble in the cold and warmth of it peeping down thespread of light, he raised his shoulder heavily over the edge of grey mountain and waveringlength of upland. Beneath his gaze the dew-fogs dipped, and crept to crept to the hollowplaces; then stole away in line and column, holding skirts, and clinging subtly at thesheltering corners where rock hung over grassland, while the brave lines of the hills came forth, one beyond other gliding.

The woods arose in folds, like drapery of awakened mountains, stately with a depth of awe, andmemory of the tempests. Autumn’s mellow hand was upon them, as they owned already, touched with gold and red and olive, and their joy towards the sun was less to a bridegroomthan a father.

Yet before the floating impress of the woods could clear it self, suddenly the gladsome lightleaped over hill and valley, casting amber, blue, and purple, and a tint of rich red rose;according to the scene they lit on, and the curtain flung around; yet all alike dispelling fearand the cloven hoof of darkness, all on the wings of hope advancing, and proclaiming, “God ishere!” then life and joy sprang reassured from every crouching hollow; every flower, and budand bird had a fluttering sense of them; and all the flashing of God’s gaze merged into softbeneficence.

So, perhaps, shall break upon us that eternal morning, when crag and chasm shall be no more, neither hill and valley, nor great unvintaged ocean; but all things shall arise, and shine in thelight of the Father’s countenance, because itself is risen.

Once a circle missed a circle wanted to be whole,so it went around looking for itsmissing because it was incomplete and therefore could roll only very slowly, itadmired the flowers along the chatted with enjoyed the foundlots of different pieces, but none of them it left them all by the side of the road andkept on one day the circle found a piece that fit was it could be whole, with nothing incorporated the missing piece intoitself and began to that it was a perfect circle,it could roll very fast, too fast tonotice the flowers or talking to the it realized how different the world seemedwhen it rolled so quickly,it stopped, left its found piece by the side of the road and rolledslowly away.

The lesson of the story,I suggested, was that in some strange sense we are more whole whenwe are missing man who has everything is in some ways a poor willnever know what it feels like to yearn,to hope,to nourish his soul with the dream ofsomething will never know the experience of having someone who loves him givehim something he has always wanted or never had.

There is a wholeness about the person who has come to terms with his limitations, who hasbeen brave enough to let go of his unrealistic dreams and not feel like a failure for e is a wholeness about the man or woman who has learned that he or she is strongenough to go through a tragedy and survive, who can lose someone and still feel like acomplete person.

Life is not a trap set for us by God so that he can condemn us for is not a spellingbee, where no matter how many words you’ve gotten right, you’re disqualified if you make is more like a baseball season, where even the best team loses one-third of itsgames and even the worst team has its days of goal is to win more games thanwe lose.

When we accept that imperfection is part of being human, and when we can continue rollingthrough life and appreciate it,we will have achieved a wholeness that others can only ,I believe,is what God asks of us--not “Be perfect”,not “Don’t even make amistake”,but “Be whole.”

If we are brave enough to love, strong enough to forgive, generous enough to rejoice inanother’s happiness, and wise enough to know there is enough love to go around for usall, then we can achieve a fulfillment that no other living creature will ever know.
