Doghouse是一個有兩個詞組成的複合詞，一個是dog（狗），一個是house（房子）。Doghouse的原意就是“狗睡的房子”，也就是“狗窩”。Be in the doghouse with作爲習語，它的意思是“使某人很生氣”，因爲做了不開心的事情，以至於被懲罰到跟狗睡在一起。其英文解釋爲：in trouble; in (someone's) disfavor。因此，對話中“I am in the doghouse with my mon and dad. ”的意思是“我的父母一直對我很生氣。”

形容詞wall-to-wall的字面意思是“牆到牆”，這個詞語源於房間內地毯的鋪法：從一邊的牆鋪到另外一邊的牆，即：鋪滿了整個房間。所以它的原意就是“鋪滿整個地板的”。如今，這個詞語已經運用到生活的很多方面了，表示“佈滿整個區域的”。所以對話中“There is nothing in the hall but wall-to-wall people.”的意思就是“大廳裏擠滿了人。”
