1. 無知是恐懼的根源，也是羨慕的根源。

【原句】Ignorance is the mother of fear as well as of admiration.
【解說】這句句子的完整形式是：Ignorance is the mother of fear as well as the mother of admiration. 因爲as well as是個並列句式，後面省略了重複的the mother。

2. 不要抱怨自己的錯誤，要從中吸取教訓。

【原句】Do not whine about your mistakes; learn from them.
【解說】whine about sb./sth. 嘀咕，發牢騷

3. 閒思浮現在他心頭。

【原句】Idle thoughts floated through his mind.
【解說】float的基本意思是指在空氣中、水面上或其他平滑的表面上輕盈地漂浮或不費力地迅速滑動，引申可指匯率、價格浮動，也可指人漫無目的地游來蕩去。

4. 每個人應該保持尊嚴，注意自己的行爲舉止。

【原句】Every person should stand on his dignity and pay attention to his behavior.
【解說】stand on one's dignity 有兩種意思：其一是“保持尊嚴”；其二是“要求受到應得的禮遇”，例：Although he held a senior position in the company, he would never stand on his dignity. 雖然他是公司的高層人士，但他從不要求別人對他畢恭畢敬。

5. 你應該儘快丟掉那些糊塗想法。

【原句】You should trash all those silly ideas as soon as possible.
【解說】trash vt.丟棄，把……視爲廢物。還可以做名詞，意爲“垃圾，廢物；拙劣的作品；沒出息的人”，例如throw trash，扔垃圾。

6. 雖然是簡短的一句話，卻包含着深刻的人生真理。

【原句】Although the sentence is short, it contains a profound truth about life.
【解說】profound a. 深刻的，深度的
深遠的影響：a profound effect/influence/impact
深深的罪惡感：a profound sense of guilt

7. 詩歌能喚起夢幻世界中的一切色彩、情感、經歷以及各種奇妙形象。

【原句】Poetry calls up all the colors, feelings, experiences and curious images of a dream world.
【解說】To call up的最普通的意思是“給某人打電話”，但是它也可以解釋爲“引起記憶，使想起”。此外，to call up還可以用在軍事方面，意思是“在緊急情況下調動預備役軍隊來參加某些行動”。
