【解說】temporary 暫時的，permanent 永久的，例如：temporary accommodation 臨時性住所，permanent accommodation 永久性住所。

【原句】The poor turnout for the election will hopefully be a wake-up call to the government.
【解說】wake-up call 叫人起牀的電話，引伸爲（讓人意識到問題或不利處境的）喚醒警告。

【解說】take a bet (on something) （以某物）打賭

【解說】be serious about (doing) sth. 認真看待某事，對某事很認真

【原句】Many politicians fail to take a stand on equal rights for women.
【解說】take a (firm) stand on sth. 意思是：to express and maintain a strong opinion of sth.，對……採取堅定的立場（或政策、姿態等）。

【原句】Love is an oasis in a boundless desert which gives a tired walker strength and hope.
【解說】oasis一詞除了有“綠洲”的意思，也可以表示a peaceful or pleasant place that is very different from everything around it，（困苦中）令人快慰的地方。例如：The garden was created as an oasis of calm for employees. 建設這座花園是爲了爲員工提供一片樂土。
