意大利法院裁定 男子患腦瘤爲手機所致

A man has been awarded monthly social security payments after a court found that his brain tumor was caused by a company-issued cellphone.

在一家法院裁定一名男子的腦瘤是由公司電話所引起的之後，他獲得了每月的社會保障金賠償。

Roberto Romeo was given a phone by Telecom Italia, which he used for three hours a day for 15 years in the job. Over time, he developed a non-cancerous tumor and the loss of hearing in one ear.

15年來，羅伯特·羅密歐在工作中每天要使用由意大利電信公司提供的電話長達3個小時。漸漸地，他長了一個良性腫瘤，一隻耳朵也失去了聽力。

Last Thursday, it emerged a court in the northern city of Ivrea has sided with Romeo, ordering the mobile network giant to pay him up to 7,000 euro a year (around $7,500).

上週四，該事件在意大利北部城市伊夫雷亞開庭，法院站在了羅密歐這一邊，並要求電信公司每年支付他近7000歐元（約7500美元）的賠償金。

It was the first trial court verdict in the world 'to recognize a link between cellphone use and the development of brain tumor'.

這是世界上首例法院裁決承認使用手機與腦瘤有關聯。

'The norms say intense use is one hour a day,' Romeo said. 'I went well beyond the limits.'

羅密歐說道：“標準規定打電話的時間是最多一天一小時。我遠遠超出該規定限制。”

Romeo sued the state social security agency, not Telecom Italia, where he still works. He said he is not against cellphone use, but that consumers should adopt safety measures.

羅密歐起訴的是國家社會保障機構，而不是自己現在所在的公司--意大利電信。他表示，自己並不反對使用手機，只是消費者應該用安全的方式使用。
