Let the cat out of the bag 揭露祕密
讓貓跑出袋子吧。看來這隻被關的小貓就指代一個祕密了。來看一個例子：
I wanted mother’s present to be a secret, but my sister let the cat out of the bag. 我希望給媽媽的禮物是個祕密，可我妹妹卻把事情給泄露了。
另一個和let the cat out of the bag意思接近的習語是blow the whistle on someone. 不過前者比較中性，祕密可好可壞；而後者一般指不好的祕密。
Blow the whistle on someone 檢舉，揭發
He was dismissed when he tried to blow the whistle on the safety problems of the factory. 當他試圖揭發工廠安全問題的時候，他被解僱了。
有些祕密被別人曝光，揭發。有時候憋在心裏的話不想再繼續隱藏，於是選擇get something off one’s chest. 主動將祕密告訴某個人。

除了被揭露的祕密，和自己願意說出的祕密，還有些時候祕密是在不情願的狀態下被自己不小心暴露出來，這時，可以用give the game away來表達這個意思。
Give the game away 露出馬腳
We were trying to pretend we didn’t know it was her birthday but Sam gave the game away. 我們都在努力裝作不知道是她的生日，但是Sam卻漏了餡兒。
If you keep giving out hints, you’ll give the game away. 如果你再繼續暗示，就徹底把計劃暴露了。
