Many of us start the day by commuting, or traveling, to work. We drop off our children at school. We may visit the doctor or go to the market to buy food. We rush home to see our families.
我們中的許多人每天上下班、或者旅遊、去工作。我們將孩子送到學校。我們可能會去看醫生或去市場買食物。我們又或許匆忙回家看望家人。

Not all traffic is the same. There are some terms you need to know when talking about traffic.
並不是所有的交通情況都是一樣的。談及交通情況有一些術語你需要知道。

One such term is gridlock. Gridlock is when nobody can go anywhere. A traffic jam so bad that no Movement is roads become one big parking lot.
交通癱瘓——是指所有人都動彈不得。交通擁堵非常糟糕，沒有任何移動的可能。整個道路成爲一個停車場。

There is also stop-and-start traffic. This is when you move forward a little, but then stop. Move a little. Then stop.
也有走走停停的交通情況，向前走了幾步後，然後停了。往前再走一點，然後又停了。

Traffic can be bumper-to-bumper. This means there are so many cars on the road that their bumpers seem to be touching. To idle means the engine of your car is running, but you are not moving .
也可能是一輛接一輛的。這意味着如此多的車在路上以至於看上去汽車的保險槓都像是碰到了一起。停頓意味着你的引擎是運轉着，但是你卻一動未動。

Another term to know is rush hour traffic. Rush hour traffic happens at about the same time every day – when people are commuting to and from work.
另一種交通情況則是上下班高峯時間。每天交通擁堵高峯基本都發生在同一時段-上下班的時候。那我們一起來看一下關於堵車的一些詞彙：

①　堵車，用英語可以表達爲“traffic jam”或者“traffic congestion”。“congested”意思爲“擁堵的，擁擠的”例如：Department stores are often congested before Christmas.聖誕節前百貨商店裏常常很擁擠。

②　“commute”的意思是“通勤，(上下班)在兩地之間乘車往返”，例如：Who is most frustrated by the daily commute?那些每日工作的人， 誰上下班最坎坷？

③　“gridlock”作爲動詞也有“交通阻塞”的意思，做名詞時意思爲“僵局，極端嚴重的全面交通擁堵”。

④　“parking lot”意思是“停車場”，另外也可以用“parking area”，“parking garage（多指室內停車場）”，“stopping place”或“car-park”等。

⑤　“bumper-to-bumper”意思是“一輛接一輛的，堵塞的”。例如：If progress is a three-hour, bumper-to-bumper traffic jam to the capital's airport,Indonesia too is going places.如果說進步就代表着去首都機場要經歷3個小時前車挨後車的交通堵塞，那麼印尼也在進步。“bumper”的意思爲“汽車的保險槓”，保險槓一個緊挨一個，擁堵情況可想而知。

⑥　“rush hour”意思爲“交通擁擠時間，上下班高峯時間”。例如：It is rush hour now. I don't want to get stuck in a traffic jam. 現在正是高峯時刻我可不想陷入車陣當中。

⑦　其實還有個表示“阻塞、阻礙”的單詞就是block，可以作動詞也可以作名詞
