章瑩穎案嫌犯將出庭受審 罪名成立或被判死刑

中國訪問學者章瑩穎在美失蹤多日後，終於傳來確切消息。據外媒報道，美國聯邦當局逮捕並指控一名27歲男子，據稱其綁架了伊利諾伊大學訪問學者章瑩穎。章瑩穎於三周前失蹤，目前據推測已經死亡。犯罪嫌疑人名爲布倫特•克里斯滕森（Brendt Christensen），曾是該校物理系的一名助教。克里斯滕森將於當地時間3日上午10點首次出席聯邦法庭的審訊。

FBI宣佈已逮捕涉嫌綁架章瑩穎男子

A man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a visiting Chinese graduate student last seen June 9 on the University of Illinois campus, the US attorney's office for Central Illinois said Friday.
伊利諾伊州中部聯邦檢察官辦公室6月30日表示，一名與6月9日伊利諾伊大學中國訪問學者失蹤案有關的男子已被逮捕。

Investigators with the FBI think the student, Yingying Zhang, 26, is probably dead, a news release from the attorney's office said.
該州聯邦檢察官辦公室發佈的消息稱，美國聯邦調查局（FBI）調查人員認爲，26歲的章瑩穎很可能已經死亡。

Brendt Christensen, 27, of Champaign, Illinois, will face a charge of kidnapping, the news release said.
消息稱，27歲的布倫特•克里斯滕森將面臨綁架指控。他來自伊利諾伊州香檳郡。

Christensen was under surveillance Thursday when agents overheard him saying he kidnapped Zhang, a criminal complaint says. Christensen said he took Zhang back to his apartment, the complaint adds.
一份刑事起訴書稱，FBI探員29日監聽到克里斯滕森說自己綁架了章瑩穎。克里斯滕森稱，他把章瑩穎帶回了自己的公寓。

美國聯邦檢察官辦公室和FBI發聲明稱：

"Based on this, and other facts uncovered during the investigation of this matter, law enforcement agents believe that Ms. Zhang is no longer alive."
“基於此翻言論以及在調查過程中發現的其他事實，執法人員認爲章瑩穎已經死亡。”

警方披露更多案件細節 嫌犯曾爲該校助教

The FBI says Christensen was driving the black Saturn Astra that was captured on security camera video picking up Zhang the afternoon of June 9.
FBI稱，克里斯滕森駕駛的黑色土星車就是6月9日下午監控錄像拍到的接走章瑩穎的那輛。

據警方介紹，在接近章瑩穎前，犯罪車輛一直在附近兜圈子（circling the area before approaching Zhang）。

隨後，警方確定在香檳郡（Champaign County）共有18輛四門土星牌阿斯特拉車註冊登記，而其中一輛車主爲克里斯滕森。

當地時間6月12日晚，警方到犯罪嫌疑人家詢問章瑩穎失蹤當日他的行蹤。

犯罪嫌疑人起初表示，自己記不清了（he could not remember），然後改口稱自己可能是睡了一天或打了一天遊戲（either sleeping or playing video games all day）。

警察搜查了其車輛，並未找到或帶走任何東西（did not locate or take anything from it）。

6月14日，警察對監控視頻進一步分析發現嫌犯車輛有天窗，而且前排副駕一側輪轂破損（had a sunroof and a cracked hubcap on the front passenger side）。

隨後，警官返回了克里斯滕森住處，確認其車輛狀況與監控錄像中的車輛吻合。

6月14日，美國伊利諾伊州中部地區聯邦法院批准在嫌犯車輛裏尋找章瑩穎失蹤時身上的物件，包括痕跡證據。

此後，犯罪嫌疑人再次改口。

On June 15, Christensen admitted picking up Zhang, the complaint says, but he told the FBI that day he let her out just a few blocks away.
6月15日，克里斯滕森承認他讓章瑩穎上了車，但是，他對FBI表示，當天自己在幾個街區外的地方將她放下。

Christensen claimed he made a wrong turn at some point and the woman panicked, then he let her out of his car a few blocks from where he picked her up.

2017年6月15日， FBI探員申請得到聯邦搜查令，檢查嫌犯持有的手機。

搜查發現在2017年4月19日嫌疑人曾經在Fetlife（一個特殊性癖網站）上訪問名爲“綁架入門”（"Abduction 101"）的論壇，並且還閱讀了標題爲“完美的綁架幻想”（“perfect abduction fantasy”）、“如何綁架”（"planning a kidnapping"）等帖子。

6月16日開始，當局開始監視克里斯滕森。6月29日警方監聽到他在一段錄音中說自己綁架了章瑩穎，把她帶回了公寓，並違反她的意願，把她囚禁在自己公寓。

The criminal complaint also says a search of the suspect's car revealed the front passenger door, next to where Zhang would have been sitting, was cleaned to a "More diligent extent."
本案刑事起訴書還稱，對嫌疑人汽車的搜查顯示，章瑩穎所坐的副駕駛側車門被“大力清理過”。

目前章瑩穎仍下落不明，當警察數次詢問克里斯滕森把章瑩穎藏在哪裏時，他都表示要找律師，並保持沉默。警方正極力蒐集證據。

Christensen was a graduate student in the physics department and a teaching assistant until May, a University of Illinois professor told cnn.
伊利諾伊大學一位教授告訴美國有線電視新聞網，克里斯滕森直到今年5月還是該校物理系的研究生兼助教。

"Everybody is shocked by this," said Lance Cooper, an associate head for graduate studies in the department. "There were no flags, no discipline issues with him, no problem with his teaching, no problems with his coursework."
物理系研究生院副院長蘭斯•庫珀稱：“所有人都被此事震驚了，他沒有收到過警告，沒有紀律問題，教學沒有毛病，學業也沒有問題。”

Christensen's LinkedIn profile states he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2013 with bachelor's degrees in physics and math. Christensen described himself as a Ph.D. candidate at U. of I. since January of 2014, researching experimental condensed matter physics.

Cooper said he didn't think Christensen would have had any academic interactions with Zhang, who came to the United States within the past two months.

Cooper said Christensen mentioned in spring 2016 that he was married and that he and his wife were going to use the next year to decide what their plans were while he completed his master's program.

David Meldgin, a teaching assistant in the physics department, said he had an office next door to Christensen for two years but they spoke only a few times.
物理系的助教大衛•摩爾根表示，他在克里斯滕森隔壁辦公已經有兩年了，但是他們只說過幾次話。

"He was a quiet person in meetings, but he always helped students who needed help." Meldgin said. "I'm really surprised."

嫌犯即將出庭受審 罪名成立或被判死刑

目前，美國聯邦調查局已將相關情況告知了章瑩穎的家人。獲悉這一消息後，中國駐芝加哥總領館隨即聯繫章瑩穎家人，對其表示深切慰問。總領館對罪犯綁架和傷害章瑩穎同學的行徑表示強烈憤慨和譴責，要求美國司法部門將罪犯繩之以法，還章瑩穎和家人以公道。

此外，伊大校長瓊斯（Robert Jones）也發表聲明表示：

"This is a senseless and devastating loss of a promising young woman and a member of our community. There is nothing we can do to ease the sadness or grief for her family and friends, but we can and we will come together to support them in any way we can in these difficult days ahead."

Christensen's first court appearance is at 10 a.m. Monday in federal court in Urbana. It is unclear whether Christensen, who is still in custody, has an attorney.

據華人律師王志東稱，雖然伊利諾伊州法律沒有死刑，但該案的起訴方是聯邦，而不是伊利諾伊州。而以聯邦的名義起訴，便可以綁架致死的罪名將罪犯判處死刑。這表示檢方是在尋求對罪犯施以最嚴酷的刑法。
