英國央行安保人員舉行罷工

bank of England security workers wearing Mark Carney masks picketed the central bank’s offices on Tuesday in the first strike by staff in 50 years on Tuesday.

英國央行(Bank of England)的保安人員週二戴着馬克?卡尼(Mark Carney)的面具在該行辦公樓外抗議，這是該行員工50年來第一次罷工。

Staff held a strike over low pay, saying the offer made for pay increases by the Bank is below inflation for the second year running. Arbitration talks mediated by Acas broke down on Monday.

Peter Kavanagh, Unite London and Eastern regional secretary, said: “The governor of the Bank of England must take responsibility for the fact that his dedicated workforce is today having to make their concerns heard from a picket line.

“Unite members from the maintenance, parlours and security departments have been left with no choice but to take industrial action because they are facing another year of having to endure a pay cut imposed upon them.”

Striking staff plan to continue action until August 3 and the union said that it would consult members in other departments about escalation if there is no resolution to the dispute.

Security and maintenance staff are striking over their pay falling in real terms at a time of rising inflation, which the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee has a mandate to target and bring under control.

保安和維修人員罷工的理由是，隨着通脹不斷上升，他們的實際報酬在不斷下降；英國央行貨幣政策委員會(Monetary Policy Committee)有責任瞄準通脹目標，使通脹處於可控範圍內。

The Bank of England said in a statement: “The union balloted approximately 2 per cent of the workforce,” adding: “The Bank has plans in place so that all essential business will continue to operate as normal during this period. The Bank has been in talks with Unite up to and including today and remains ready to continue those talks at any time.” Gavin Jackson
