Muffled shouting from outside the studio and banging on the door.

莉：什麼？William: What on earth is all of that hullabaloo about?
威廉：這些嘈雜的聲音到底是怎麼回事？Shouting and banging stops.
喊叫聲和敲門聲停止了。Li: Ah... I think it's stopped.
莉：啊……好像沒有聲音了。William: What was it? It sounded like a crowd of people outside the studio!
威廉：那是什麼？聽起來演播室外面好像有一羣人！Li: I don't know. I'd be interested to find out. But I have to say, there is something else that I'm even more curious about...
莉：我不知道。我倒是很有興趣弄清楚。不過我必須要說，還有讓我更感興趣的事情……William: Oh right. What's that?
威廉：好吧。那是什麼？Li: What was that word you used just now, William? Hulla...?
莉：威廉，剛剛你用了哪個詞？Hulla……？William: Hullabaloo.
威廉：是Hullabaloo嘈雜。Li: Oh, that's it.
莉：對，就是這個。William: Hullabaloo. You spell it H.U.L.L.A.B.A.L.O.O. Hullabaloo. It means a loud noise or commotion.
威廉：嘈雜。拼寫是H.U.L.L.A.B.A.L.O.O，嘈雜。意思是吵鬧的聲音或是混亂。Li: Hullabaloo (wrong pronunciation).
莉：嘈雜（發音錯了）。William: Hullabaloo.
威廉：是嘈雜。Li: Hullabaloo (correct pronunciation).
莉：嘈雜（正確的發音）。William: Exactly, yeah.
威廉：沒錯。Li: Let's hear another example of this word being used.
莉：我們再來聽一個應用這個單詞的例子。I tried to quieten the class down, but there was such a hullabaloo that no-one could hear me!
我試圖讓全班安靜下來，但是吵鬧聲太大了，根本沒人能聽到我的話！Li: So in that example, a teacher's class was making such a hullabaloo that no-one could hear her. Is this word used in any other ways, William?
莉：在這個例子中，一名老師教授的班級太吵鬧了，以致於沒人能聽到她的聲音。威廉，這個詞還有其他用法嗎？William: Well, the word hullabaloo can imply anger and disapproval. Can you imagine lots of people shouting because they're angry? Have a listen to this example:
威廉：喧鬧這個詞可以表示生氣和不同意。你能想象許多人喊叫的原因是因爲他們很生氣嗎？來聽下面這個例子：That actor was so angry with the film's director and producer that he refused to do any promotional work. But then when he didn't go to the premiere in L.A., there was such a hullabaloo from his fans that he had to apologise.
那位演員對電影導演和製片人極其不滿，所以他拒絕參加宣傳工作。他沒有參加在洛杉磯舉行的首映禮，這使得他的粉絲非常生氣，所以他不得不進行道歉。Li: So in that example, a film star didn't go to a premiere and there was a hullabaloo from his fans because they were angry with him.
莉：在這個例子中，一名電影明星沒有參加首映禮，所以他的粉絲因爲生氣而吵鬧。William: And in that situation, 'hullabaloo' doesn't mean lots of loud noise, but maybe some angry blog articles and some harsh words in the press.
威廉：在那種情況下，hullabaloo這個詞就不是吵鬧聲的意思了，而是指表達不滿的博客文章和新聞中的尖銳話語。Li: William, I must say, 'hullabaloo' is a very strange sounding word! Where does it come from?
莉：威廉，我必須要說，hullabaloo這個詞發音太怪了！這個詞起源於哪裏？William: Well, no-one really knows for sure. But some people think it comes from people going "Hullo! Hullo! Hullo!"

莉：真的嗎？那真是非常……Shouting and banging starts again.

莉：哦，我……William: Oh Li, I didn't know that you had a fan club! Well, I think we'd better end the programme there! Goodbye!

2. be curious about
求知慾強的；好奇的；
eg. Steve was intensely curious about the world I came from.
史蒂夫非常想了解我以前生活的那個世界。
I'm curious about the subject of your dissertation.
而且我對你的研究課題非常好奇。
3. quieten down
（使）安靜；（使）平靜下來；
eg. The labour unrest which swept the country last week has quietened down.
上週席捲全國的勞工暴動已經平息了。
eg. Somehow I managed to quieten her down.
