1. torn

torn是tear的過去分詞，tear作動詞是“撕破”的意思。

有選擇困難的人最能體會糾結爲難的感覺了，是不是感覺要被撕裂了，這很形象吧！

torn是形容詞，意思是“猶豫的”。

Robb is torn between becoming a doctor and a career in athletics.

2. play fast and loose

play fast and loose with sth/sb的意思是“輕率地對待”，玩弄某人的感情就可以用這個短語：

3. play it cool

play it cool看字面意思就很好理解，“故意裝作無所謂，故作灑脫”。

來看看tone這個詞，本意是“語氣、口吻”，這裏是“基調，格調”的意思。

所以說，set the tone的意思是就是“定基調”。

Her friendly opening speech set the tone for the whole conference.

她友好的開幕詞確定了整個會議的基調。

4. come/get (down) off your high horse

你想想，古時候人騎在很高的馬上的時候，是不是都很高高在上、盛氣凌人呢？

come/get (down) off your high horse？“從馬上下來”也就是“別再自以爲是”的意思。

It's time you came down off your high horse and admitted you were wrong.

現在該是你別再自以爲是，承認自己錯誤的時候了。

5. pin sb down

我把他按在牆上。

<2>（使）（某人）明確說明；作出決定

I've tried asking Stephanie, but she's proving difficult to pin down to a particular date.
