老外聽膩的英語依然實用

上個月，英國語言學家Jeremy Butterfield出版了一本新書A Damp Squid: The English Language Laid Bare。他根據牛津語料庫（Oxford University Corpus）中的資料，統計得到英國人最常見的10句套話。對於老外，聽到這些話，可能會覺得反感。但是，我覺得對於中國人，不妨好好學一下，偶爾用用，反而能增進語感，讓native speaker“刮目相看”。
下面就是我做的筆記。

1. At the end of the day

【中文解釋】 最終；表示總結

【例句】Sure we missed our best player but at the end of the day, John, we just didn't play well enough to win the game.（我們最好的選手不能上場，但是最終來說，還是因爲我們發揮得不好，所以無法贏得比賽。）

【例句】At the end of the day, what matters is that you're safe.（最終來說，你安然無恙，這纔是最重要的。）

【例句】We interviewed many people for the job, but at the end of the day, we didn't think any of them could handle it.（我們面試了很多人，但是最後，我們覺得合適的人選一個也沒有。）

2. Fairly unique

【中文解釋】相當獨特（這個短語屬於過度修飾，語義不清）

【例句】I am looking for a fairly unique piece of technology.（我在尋找一種獨特的技術。）

3. I personally

【中文解釋】我個人（這個短語屬於同義重複）

【例句】I personally don't like her.（我不喜歡她。）

【中文解釋】顯而易見的；明顯的；另一種說法是it doesn't take a rocket scientist

【例句】We're talking basic common sense here - it isn't rocket science.（我們在這裏說的是常識，又不是高深莫測的東西。）

【中文解釋】一場噩夢；太糟糕了

8. Shouldn't of

【中文解釋】這個短語等於shouldn't have，意爲“不應該”，從語法看，是不正確的，但是在口語中使用。

【例句】I shouldn't of had the beer!（我不該喝啤酒）

【例句】This game shouldn't of got cancelled!（這場比賽本來不應該取消的。）
