第一，用英文簡單界定事物。

美國人和美國人交談80%是想告訴對方這個事物是什麼。儘管現在英語課本的詞彙難度不斷加深，但思維邏輯結構卻只停留在一個水平上。中國人常說：Where is the book? 很少有人說：What is a book? 而美國的小學生會問：What is the book? Where is the book? 只是思維的描述階段。但是我想連大學生也很難回答What is a book?因爲中國傳統英語教學模式沒有教會學生表達思想的技巧。

第二，訓練用不同的方式解釋同一事物。

一種表達式對方不懂，美國人會尋找另一種表達式最終讓對方明白。因爲事物就一個，但表達它的語言符號可能會很多。這就需要多做替換練習。傳統的教學方法也做替換練習，但這種替換不是真替換，只是語言層面的替換，而不是思維層面的替換。比如，I love you。按我們教學的替換方法就把you換成her，my Mother等，這種替換和小學生練描紅沒有什麼區別。這種替換沒有對智力構成挑戰，沒有啓動思維。這種替換句子的基本結構沒變，我聽不懂I love you，肯定也聽不懂I love her。如果替換爲I want to kiss you,I want to hug you,I will show my heart to you等，或者給對方講電影《泰坦尼克》，告訴對方那就是愛，這樣一來對方可能就明白了。這才叫真正的替換。也就是說用一種不同的方式表達同一個意思，或者一個表達式對方聽不清楚，舉一個簡單易懂的例子來表達，直到對方明白。

第三，學會美國人描述東西的方式。

從描述上來講，由於中美的文化不同會產生很大的差異。我們描述東西無外乎把它放在時間和空間兩個座標上去描述。美國人對空間的描述總是由內及外，由裏及表。而中國人正好相反。從時間上來說，中國人是按自然的時間順序來描述。我們描述一個東西突然停住時，往往最後說的那個地方是最重要的。美國人在時間的描述上先把最重要的東西說出來，然後再說陪襯的東西。只有發生悲劇性的事件，美國人才在前面加上鋪墊。這就是中國人和美國人在時間描述上的巨大差別。

讓美國人聽懂你的託福口語，不光需要鍛鍊發音及句式，更重要的是向他們的思維方式及描述方式上靠攏。
