COM port即COM介面，是指Component Object Mode介面，是微軟定義的標準介面。是一種序列通訊埠。COM口的介面標準規範和匯流排標準規範是RS-232，有時候也叫做RS-232口。
電腦上的COM口多為9針，最大速率115200bps。通常用於連線滑鼠(串列埠)及通訊裝置(如連線外接式MODEM進行資料通訊)等。但目前主流的主機板一般都只帶1個串列埠，甚至不帶，慢慢會被USB 取代。以前用於連線老式的COM口滑鼠鍵盤，還有連結路由器，外接調變解調器等。現在很少使用。
現在的PC機一般有兩個序列口COM 1和COM 2。序列口不同於並行口之處在於它的資料和控制資訊是一位接一位地傳送出去的。雖然這樣速度會慢一些，但傳送距離較並行口更長，因此若要進行較長距離的通訊時，應使用序列口。通常COM 1使用的是9針D形聯結器，也稱之為RS-232介面，而COM 2有的使用的是老式的DB25針聯結器，也稱之為RS-422介面，這種介面目前已經很少使用。
串列埠通訊是序列通訊的一種方式，包括RS232標準的通訊，RS485標準的通訊等等。序列通訊是一種相對於並行通訊的通訊方式，這種通訊方式傳輸資料是序列輸出的，即只有一個輸出針腳，如USB通訊，現在的序列硬碟通訊和串列埠通訊等，而並行通訊可以同時傳輸多位，如8位並行通訊、16位並行通訊等，如計算機CPU資料匯流排，控制匯流排等等都是同時傳送多位(現在大部分是32位，也有了64位)，接到總線上的整合晶片等元器件與CPU都是並行通訊。
