David Beckham was reduced to tears when son Brooklyn flew back to the UK from New York to surprise him on his birthday on Wednesday.

According to Victoria and David's Instagram accounts, the former football player had be lavished with presents on his big day - but the best gift of all was having his eldest child also there to celebrate.

A video shows the famous family, including all the grandparents, sat down to dinner when Brooklyn walks through the door to surprise his dad.

"What are you doing here? What are you doing here?" a teary and shocked Becks repeatedly asks as he embraces his son.

"Are you OK? Happy birthday... I just landed," Brooklyn - who now lives in New York while he studies - tells him.

In the background you can hear little Harper exclaim, "I didn't know Brooklyn was coming."
