  唯美的英語美文:在鬱悶的日子裏

Everybody has blue days.

These are miserable days when you feel lousy, grumpy(脾氣暴躁的), lonely, and utterly exhausted.

Days when you feel smAll and insignificant,

when everything seems just out of reach.

You can't rise to the occasion.

Just getting started seems impossible.

On blue days you can become paranoid(偏執狂的) that everyone is out to get you.

This is not always such a bad thing.

You feel frustrated and anxious, which can induce a nail-biting frenzy that can escalate into a triple-chocolate-mud-cake-eating frenzy in a blink of an eye!

On blue days you feel like you're floating in an ocean of sadness.

You're about to burst into tears at any moment and you don't even know why.

Ultimately, you feel like you're wandering through life without purpose.

You're not sure how much longer you can hang on,

and you feel like shouting, "Will someone please shout me!"

It doesn't take much to bring on a blue day.

You might just wake up not feeling or looking your best,

find some new wrinkles, put on a little weight, or get a huge pimple on your nose.

You could forget your date's name or have an embarrassing photograph published.

You might get dumped, divorced, or fired, make a fool of yourself in public, be afflicted with a demeaning nickname,

or just have a plain old bad-hair day.

Maybe work is a pain in the butt.

You're under major pressure to fill someone else's shoes,

your boss is picking on you,

and everyone in the office is driving you crazy.

You might have a splitting headache,

or a slipped dish, bad breath, a toothache, chronic gas, dry lips,

or a nasty ingrown toenail.

Whatever the reason, you're convinced that someone up there doesn't like you.

Oh what to do, what to dooo?

Well, if you're like most people,

you'll hide behind a flimsy belief that everything will sort itself out.

Then you'll spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder,

waiting for everything to go wrong all over again.

All the while becoming crusty and cynical or a pathetic, sniveling victim.

Until you get so depressed that you lie down and beg the earth to swallow you up or, even worse, become addicted to Billy Joel songs.

This is crazy,

because you're only young once and you're never old twice.

  唯美的英語美文:承諾來之不易

I should have known all along

there was something wrong

I just never read between the lines

Then I woke up one day and found you on your way

Leaving nothing but my heart behind

What can I do to make it up to you

Promises don't come easy

But tell me if there's a way to bring you back home to stay

Well I'd promises anything to you

I've been walkin' around with my head hanging down

Wondrin' what I'm gonna do

'Cause when you walked out that door, I knew I needed you more

Than to take a chance on losing you

What can I do to make it up to you

Promises don't come easy

You know I've made up my mind to make it work this time

That's the promise that I give to you

You never thought I loved you

I guess you never thought I cared

I was just too proud to say it out loud

Now I know, to let my feelings go (so tell me)

What can I do to make it up to you

Promises don't come easy

You know I've made up my mind to make it work this time

That's the promise I can give to you

  唯美的英語美文:工作時開心的祕訣

Of course, being happy at work depends mostly on how much you like your job. But there are also smaller steps that can boost your happiness, as well. Some of these steps are VERY small, but the fact that you're taking steps to improve your situation itself boosts happiness.

Check for eyestrain(眼睛疲勞) by putting your hand to your forehead in a salute. If your eyes feel relieved, your work space is too bright。

Sit up straight with your shoulders down -- every time I adjust my sitting position, I instantly feel more energetic and cheerier。

Get a phone headset. I resisted for a long time, because it looks so preposterous(荒謬的), but it's really much more comfortable. Also, it lets me pace while I talk on the phone, which also looks preposterous, but is energizing。

Don't keep candy on your desk. Studies show that people are much more likely to snack when a treat is within easy reach, and a handful of M&Ms each day could mean a weight gain of five pounds by year's end。

Never say "yes" on the phone; instead, say, "I'll get back to you." When you're actually speaking to someone, the desire to be accommodating is very strong, and can lead you to say "yes" without enough consideration. Along the same lines。

When deciding whether to say "yes", imagine that you're accepting a job that you'll have to do next week. Don't agree to something just because it seems so far off that it doesn't seem onerous。

Don't let yourself get too hungry. The Big Man goes without eating for hours and hours at a time, so once, trying to be helpful, I bought him a big bag of granola to keep in his desk. He ate the whole bag in one day and ended up sick as a dog. Lesson: eat regularly。

Take care of difficult calls, tasks, or emails as quickly as possible. Procrastinating makes them harder; getting them done gives a big boost of relieved energy。

If you're feeling overwhelmed, think hard about how you spend your time. Be honest. How much time do you spend surfing the internet, looking for things you've misplaced, or doing a task that's really someone else's job? Also。

Let yourself stay ignorant of things you don't need to know。

Go outside at least once a day, and if possible, take a walk. The sunlight and activity is good for your focus, mood, and retention of information。

Say "Good morning" to everyone. Social contact is cheering, and if you feel that you're on good terms with all the people in your office, you'll be happier each day. Also, it's polite.
