中國文化似乎毫不掩飾地強調聲望

For example I was reading over this descxtion of a CS program at Tsinghua:

You don't see this kind of prose from elite or wanna-be elite universities outside China. Rather they tend to focus on talking about producing great students and are more modest about advertising themselves and comparing themselves to other schools. I'm assuming possibly unfairly that this reflects a general overt focus on prestige in the culture as a whole. How did it evolve this way?

你不會從中國以外的一流大學或者準一流大學看到這種枯燥無味的廢話。與之相反的是他們更多注重於培養偉大的學生而且在推銷自己以及和其他學校對比時要謙虛的多。我不會好意地臆測一下：這種現象反映了中國整體文化中對聲望的不加掩飾的追求。它是怎麼發展到這一步的？
