A story is told about，a young married couple whose names are Jim and Dclla. They are poor but very much in love with each other.

As Christmas approaches, Della wonder what to get Jim for C'hristmas. She would like to give him a watch chain fur his gold watch. but ;he doean't have a enough money. Then she gets an has beautiful long hair. So Della decide, to cut off her hair and sell it buy the fancy chain for Jim's watch.

聖誕節前，黛拉考慮着該給吉姆買什麼樣的聖誕禮物她想給他的金錶配一根錶鏈，可錢不夠。後來她想到了一個主意。她長有一頭漂亮的長髮，因此她決定將長髮剪短換錢，這樣就可以給吉姆買一根漂亮的錶鏈了。

On Christmas Eve she return s home, and in her hand is beautiful bos containing a gold watch chain which she purchased bys elling her hair. Suddenly Della begins to worry. She knows Jim admired her long hair, and she wonders if he will be disappointed that she cut it ott and sold it.

平安夜，拿着一個裝有金錶錶鏈的禮盒，黛拉向家中走去沒錯，錶鏈正是她用賣掉自己的頭髮的錢買來的。黛拉有些擔心，她知道古姆非常喜歡她長長的秀髮，而待會看到她的頭髮被剪短，他會很失望嗎?

Della climbs the final flight of stairs leading to their tiny apartment. She unlocks the door and is surprised to find Jim home and waiting for her. In his hand is a neatly wrapped box containing the gift he purchased for her.

黛拉在不安中走完了通向他們那面積不大的公寓的最後一級樓梯。打開門，她驚訝的發現吉姆正在家中等她回家。他手裏拿着一個包裝精美的盒子，裏面裝着的當然是給她的禮物。

When Della removes her scarf, Jim sees Della's short hair, and tears well up in his eyes. But she says nothing. He chokes back the tears and gives Della the gift box.

到家後黛拉解開頭巾，看到黛拉剪短的頭髮，吉姆眼中泛淚，而她什麼也沒說。控制住眼淚.吉姆將手中的禮盒遞給黛拉。

When Della opens it, she can't believe her eyes. There in the box is a set of beautiful silver combs for her long hair.

打開禮盒，黛拉不敢相信自己的眼睛，禮盒裏裝有一套漂亮的銀質梳具，一套爲她曾經的秀髮準備的梳具。

And when Jim opens his gift, he, too, is astonished. There inside the box is a beautiful gold chain for his gold pocket watch. Only then does Della realize that Jim pawned his gold watch to buy her the silver hair combs.

打開禮盒後，吉姆同樣驚呆了，禮盒裏正是黛拉給他買的漂亮的金錶錶鏈。黛拉那時才知道，爲了給她買這套銀質梳具，吉姆已經將金錶抵押給了當鋪。

Far more beautiful than the gifts is the love they symbolize.

比禮物更美的，是禮物所表現出的對彼此的愛。

10th grade

10年級

As I sat there in English class,I started at the girl next to me was my so called"Best friend",I started at her long,silky hair,and wished she was she didn't notice me like that,and I knew it.

英語課上，我默默注視着鄰座的女生，我所謂的“好朋友”。看着她長長的秀髮，多希望她是屬於我的。但她不知道我內心的想法，這點我很清楚。

After class,she walked up to me and asked me for the notes she had missed the day before and I handed them to said"Thanks "and gave me a kiss on the cheek.I want to tell her,I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends,I love her but I am just too shy,and Idon't know why.

課後，她向我走來，找我借昨天的筆記，因爲她昨天沒來上課，拿到筆記後，她謝謝我，並在我臉上輕輕一吻。我想告訴她，想讓她知道，我不想只是朋友，我愛她，只是我太害羞，我不明白爲什麼。

11th grade

11年級

The phone the other end,it was her was in tears,mumbling on and on about how her love had broke her asked me to come over because she didn't want to be alone,so I I sat next to her on the sofa,I stared at her soft ing she was r 2 hours,one Drew Barrymore movie,and three bags of chips,she decided to go to sleep.

The day before prom she walked to my locker."My date is sick",she said;he's not going to go well,I didn't have a date,and in 7th grade,we made a promise that if neither of us had dates,we would go together just as"best friends",So we might,after everything was over,I was standing at her front door step!I started at her as she smiled at me and started at me with her crystal eyes.I want her to be mine,but she isn't thinking of me like that,and I know she said "I had the best time,thanks!"and gave me a kiss on the cheek.I want to tell her.I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends. I love her but I am just too shy,and I don't know why.

A day passed,then a week,then a re I could blink,it was graduation day .I watched as her perfect body floated like an angel up on stage to get her diploma.I wanted her to be mine,but she didn't notice me like thet,and I knew re everyone went home,she came to me in her smock and hat,and cried as I hugged she lifted her head from my shoulder and said,"you are my best friends ,thanks"and gave me a kiss on the cheek.I want to tell her,I want her to knoww that I don't want to be just friends .I love her I am just too shy,and I don't know why.

Years passed,I looked down at the coffin of a girl who used to be my"best friend",At the service ,they read a diary entry she had wrote in her high school is what it read.I stare at him wishing he was mine,but he doesn't notice me like that,and I know it,I want to tell him,I want him to know that I don't want to be just friends,I love him just too shy,and I don't why .I wish he would tell me he loved me!

多年以後，我看着棺材裏躺着的曾經是我“好朋友”的女孩。喪禮上，他們唸到一篇她中學時代寫的一篇日記，日記如是說：“注視着他，我希望他是屬於我的，但他不知道我內心的想法，這點我很清楚。我想告訴他，想讓他知道，我希望不只是朋友，我愛他，只是我太害羞，我不明白爲什麼。我希望他能告訴我他是愛我的。”

A woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long hite beards sitting in her front did not recognize said"I don't think I know you,but you must be se come in and have something to eat."

一個婦人走出房間，看到3個留着花白鬍須的老人坐在前院內。她並不認識他們，於是對他們說：“我好像不認識你們，不過你們肯定是餓了吧，請進屋吃點東西吧。”

"Is the man of the house home?"they asked.

“你丈夫在家嗎?”他們問道。

"No,"she said."He's out."

“沒有，他出去了”，婦人回答說。

"Then we cannot come in",they replied,

“那我們不能進去”，老人們說。

In the evening when her husband came home,she told him what had happened."Go tell them I am home and invite in!"The woman went out and invited the men in.

晚上，丈夫回家了，妻子告訴丈夫發生的事情。“那趕緊去告訴他們我回來了，邀請他們進屋啊!”妻子出去了，邀請他們進來。

"We do not go into a house together ,"they replied.

“我們不能一起進屋，”老人們回答道。

"Why is that?"she wanted to know.

“爲什麼呢?”妻子問道。

One of the old men explained:"His name is Wealth,"he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one,"He is Success,and I am Love."Then he added,"Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home."

其中一位老人指向他們中的一位老人說：“他的名字叫財富”，“另外一個叫成功，我叫做愛情”，之後他繼續補充道：“進屋和你丈夫商量一下，你想要邀請我們三位中的哪一位進屋呢?”

The woman went in and told her husband what was huaband was overjoyed."How nice!",he said."Since that is the case,let us invite him come and fill our home with wealth!"

妻子進屋後將老人們的話告訴了丈夫，丈夫很高興，“太好了!”他說道，“如果是那樣的話，那我們邀請財富吧，讓他進來，讓我們家充滿財富!”

His wife disagreed,"My dear,why don't we invite Success?"Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the jumped in with her own suggestion:"Would it not be better to invite Love?Our home will then be filled with love!"

妻子不同意。“親愛的，爲什麼不邀請成功呢?”當時媳婦正在房子另一角聽他們的對話，她也提出她的看法：“邀請愛情進來會不會更好呢?這樣我們家以後就會充滿愛了!”

"Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice,"said the husband to his wife."Go out and invite Love to be our guest."

“我們就按照媳婦的意思吧”，丈夫對妻子講，“出去邀請愛情來我們家做客吧!”

The woman went out and asked the three old men,"Which one of you is Love?Please come in and be our guest."

妻子出去後問3位老人： “你們誰是愛情?請愛情到我們家做客吧。”

Love got up and started walking toward the other two also got up and followed rised,the lady asked Wealth and Success:"I only invited Love,why are you coming in?"

愛情起身朝屋裏走去，其他兩位老人也起身跟在他身後。妻子覺得很奇怪，就問財富和成功“我只邀請了愛情，你們幹嗎也進去呢?”

The old men replied together:"If you had invited Wealth or Success,the other two of us would have stayed,but since you invited Love,wherever he goes,we go with ever there is Love,there is also Weath and Success!"

老人齊聲回答道：“如果你只邀請了財富或者成功，那麼另外兩位就不會進屋，但你邀請了愛，愛走到哪裏，我們就應該跟到哪裏。擁有愛就是擁有財富，擁有成功。”
