英語中情態動詞can, could, dare的用法

情態動詞(Modal verbs)本身有一定的詞義，表示語氣的單詞。但不能獨立作謂語，只能和動詞原形一起構成謂語。情態動詞用在行爲動詞前，表示說話人對這一動作或狀態的看法或主觀設想。情態動詞雖然數量不多，但用途廣泛，主要有下列： can (could), may (might), must, need,ought to, dare (dared), shall (should), will (would) must not。

2.can, could的用法

can和could都可以表示“能力”：

Can you type as fast as she?

你能打(字)得她那樣快嗎?

They can help you in two ways.

他們能夠從兩個方面幫助你。

Tom could drink two bottles of beer at a time.

湯姆一次能喝兩瓶啤酒。

Only a few people could see through the trick.

只有一些人能夠看穿這種騙術。

Can, could表示請求、許可，但could比can更委婉、客氣：

Can you lend me your bike?

你能借單車給我嗎?

You can use my bike.

你可以用我的單車。

Could you repeat it?

你能重複一遍嗎?

Could you inform us?

你能通知我們嗎?

can, could表示“可能性”：

That can be a wrong number.

那可能是個錯誤的號碼。

This time it can not be wrong.

這次錯不了。

It could bea false address.

那可能是個假的地址。

No one could be so careless.

沒人會如此粗心。

3.dare, dared用法

dare, dared表示“敢於”，主要用於疑問句、否定句和條件句中：

She dare not walk in the dark.

她不敢在黑暗中行走。

How dare he say that?

他竟敢說那種話?

If he dare be absent, he will be punished.

如果他敢於缺席，他會受到處罰。

They dared not go out.

他們不敢出去。

注意：

dare也常用作實義動詞：They didn’t dare to go out.
