含蓄條件句

有些時候，不用條件句，而用一個詞組、暗含的意思表示假設，這樣的句子就是含蓄條件句。

用with, without等介詞引導的介詞詞組，或者分詞詞組，獨立主格結構代替條件句。

You wouldn’t have succeeded without their support.

=You wouldn’t have succeeded if they hadn’t supported you.

如果沒有他們的支持，你們就不會成功了。

What would you do with 100,000 dollars?

如果你有10萬美元，你會怎麼花?

Having foreseen the storm, she wouldn’t have gone out.

要是預見到暴風雨要來，她就不會出去了。

虛擬條件句的省略和倒裝

在書面語中(口語中極少)有時將虛擬條件句的if省去,將主語後的助動詞(或者情態動詞)移到主語前。

If we had finished earlier, we could have won the first place.

→Had we finished earlier, we could have won the first place.

如果我們早一點完成，我們就能獲得第一名了。

If I should have the chance, I would try it.

→Should I have the chance, I would try it.

如果我有機會，我會試一下的。

If I were at college now, I would work very hard.

→Were I at college now, I would work very hard.
