單詞
在我看來，有了大量詞彙的積累衆多的語言難點都可以迎刃而解，記得一個朋友是這樣形容自己如何連背三遍GRE單詞的：“我把每一張卡片都看成美鈔。”儘管是戲謔確有其真義。背單詞，一本好的詞彙書是必須的，他必須滿足幾個條件：
1、針對性強，這樣才能避免做無用功和“空中樓閣”現象的出現。
2、精煉但覆蓋面廣，對於常用的動詞、介詞、名詞有精簡概括的用法和詞條介紹。
3、例句生動貼切，詞彙只有在句子中才有生命，好的例句不僅有助於記憶詞彙，更可以在很大程度上培養語感，提高修飾水平。
背單詞的大忌在於背背停停，這樣的效果是最差的，一旦去背了就要天天堅持，不一定刻意去追求數量，有時一兩個也可以，關鍵在於連續和質量。
語法
系統的語法書對於想學好英語的人來講是必不可少的。的確，語法是語言的骨架，我們學習語言，不必過分拘泥於語法，卻不可棄之一邊。
薄冰和張道正先生的語法書是值得一學的，高中三年應基本完成英語的語法教學系統，有條理的翻閱一下語法書有助於查漏補缺，但也無需鑽研過深。
閱讀和寫作
平時我們要廣泛的選用泛讀、快讀、略讀和導讀等多種手段來有針對性地加大自己的閱讀量，提高自己的閱讀水平。泛讀的內容可以側重於英語報刊和原版小說。此外，還應該充分利用圖書館，有目的地找一些材料來鍛鍊自己運用英語的能力，提高閱讀速度，獵取所需信息。
學習英語的根本目的，是爲了汲取異域文化和加強國家之間的溝通與交流。因此我們一般總是通過閱讀，來了解雙方的語言語境、文化背景上的差異，從而積累素材，以便在寫作時闡述自己的觀點。
口語和聽力
你要相信自己是能聽會說的，只要自己肯努力，就一定可以。成功方法和途徑多之又多：可以在早上打開收音機收聽英語欄目，可以去英語角來聊聊天、一個人對着鏡子找個話題談談，可以上業餘進修學校的口語班，如果夠膽，還可以找個老外當一次導遊......方法是舉不勝舉的，關鍵是自己是否能夠做一個有心人。
應試技巧
1、千萬不能忽視小詞的用法。類似於come to ,come up,come into,come across 等加了小詞之後，詞條就有了不同的用法和辨析，這一點在英語學習中是不可忽視的。
2、閱讀時爭取一目十行，有了大意，看過題目之後再細讀文章，更有目的性、針對性，更省時間。
3、完形填空兼顧了閱讀能力和語法、語義、語境、詞彙等多方面的技能，是靈活運用語言、語境知識，科學使用文化背景的綜合體現。平時可以通過完型填空來鍛鍊自己的能力。
4、寫作和口語中儘量少用偏詞、冷僻詞，熟練運用大衆詞彙，那纔是寫作、口語水平高超的表現。
5、適當的業餘課程學習是必要的，高中其實正處於讀、考TOEFL的黃金時段，你會發現，這對自己參加考試和英語各類競賽有很大幫助。
語言這個東西可以說有捷徑可走，即尋求一個好方法;也可以說無捷徑可循，即脫不開自身的努力和興趣。因人而異，尋找共同點，整理出一套適合自己的方法纔是語言學習的根本。第一門外語，我們可能要花十幾年才能掌握，但一旦有了方法和經驗，掌握第二門外語，也許一兩年就足夠了。就像我現在學習德文，提高之快，是學習英語是無法比擬的，也是自己始料未及的。
