而主旨句法又分爲三個步驟。首先是尋找主旨句;其次是分析理解主旨句;最後是比較選項，選出答案。
第一步驟是尋找主旨句，那麼這個主旨句到底應該在哪裏?我們又要通過什麼標準來判斷我們找到的這句話就是文章的主旨句呢?首先我們要理解的是英語篇章一般邏輯性都很強，所以作者通常是會開門見山的說出自己寫這篇文章的意圖是什麼，故我們尋找主旨句應該先在文章的首段來看，如果首段沒有，我們再看末段，因爲有時候作者可能是想在最後一段總結全文得出主旨句。主旨句在文章首段出現的頻率會更高。在定位後，我們還要了解主旨句一般會出現在轉折句和疑問句後，所以如果大家看到首段中有轉折句和疑問句，那麼主旨句一般就是在這兩個“不正常”的句子之後了。
比如2014年閱讀理解第一篇的一道主旨題，我們在首段定位主旨句：
Most people agree that honesty is a good thing. But does Mother Nature agree? Animals can‘t talk, but can they lie in other ways? Can they lie with their bodies and behavior? Animal experts may not call it lying, but they do agree that many animals, from birds to chimpanzees, behave dishonestly to fool other animals. Why? Dishonesty often helps them survive.我們找到這段中的but轉折句，又發現後面接連幾句都是疑問句，因此這段中的主旨句就是轉折句和疑問句後的陳述句，即Animal experts may not call it lying, but they do agree that many animals, from birds to chimpanzees, behave dishonestly to fool other animals.
第二步驟是分析理解主旨句。在這一步，我們主要是提取主謂賓，撇開插入語等贅句，進行這一步，能夠幫助我們快速理解主旨句、進而迅速理解文章主旨大意。以上一段的主旨句爲例，Animal experts may not call it lying, but they do agree that many animals, from birds to chimpanzees, behave dishonestly to fool other animals.我們刪掉from birds to chimpanzees這個插入語，再刪去to fool other animals這個目的狀語，那麼剩下的成分就是Animal experts agree that many animals behave dishonestly，這樣主旨句就簡單明瞭。
第三步驟是比較選項，選出答案。這步就是“求放心”，在對選項進行比較後，我們可以排除掉無關文章主旨的選項，最終選出與主旨句最接近的那個選項。
說了這麼多，大家還是要通過多多練習才能鞏固對這個方法的應用。
