Here's an example when two word used together can sound very painful.

下面這個例子中的兩個詞在一起使用時，聽起來很痛苦。

Hey, I saw your friend Anna yesterday.

嘿，我昨天看見你朋友Anna了。

She was telling me about your birthday party. And she said that it was the best party that she had been to all year.

她跟我說了你的生日party。她說這是她今年參加過的最好的party。

Wow, that's why my ears were burning.

哇喔，怪不得昨天我耳朵着火了（ my ears were burning）。

If people say "my ears were burning," it means someone was talking about them, but that they weren't there to hear it.

如果有人說“我的耳朵着火了”，意思是某人正在談論他/她，而他/她卻不在談話現場。

Imagine a message being sent to you when people are talking about you.

當人們在談論你時候，想象信息傳給了你（使的你耳朵發紅發燙像是燃起來一樣）。

This comes from Ancient Rome, when people believed "burning ears" and other sensations signaled current or future events.

這是來自古羅馬，人們相信“燃燒着的耳朵”和其他一些感覺預示着當前或者未來的一些事情。

If it was in the right ear, the person was praised.

如果某人是右耳朵燃燒，那麼這個人是被表揚了。

The left ear meant evil may come.

如果是左耳那麼可能會發生不好的事情。
