英語中滿肚子蝴蝶是什麼意思？

今天我們來說一個單詞butterfly，即“奶油butter ＋ 飛fly”。爲什麼會是這樣的？

傳說在很久以前，居住在英國郊區的人們，在早春時節看到在森林中飛翔的黃色粉蝶（yellow brimstone butterfly）。當她們在陽光照射下，就像飛舞般的奶油（butter flying）一樣。於是，蝴蝶就被取名爲butterfly。

生物學研究表明，溫帶地區的蝴蝶，大都較小型而色彩單調，而亞熱帶及熱帶地區的蝴蝶，都具有美麗鮮豔的顏色。英國的蝴蝶，就屬於單調的奶油一類。

而中文的 “蝴蝶”也很有意思。分別都是“蟲”字旁，而“蝴”來自“胡思亂想”，猶如夢境一般，飄來飄去，飛忽不定， “蝶”就是形容那種小蟲的翅膀宛如兩隻小碟。

說起butterfly，我首先想到的是Miley Cyrus的那首Butterfly Fly Away：

蝴蝶將會遠飛

蝴蝶在我們的中國的文化中，也有典型的角色，如：莊周夢蝶，梁祝化蝶。也能讓我聯想到Butterfly Effect(蝴蝶效應)。今天要學習的習語也是關於蝴蝶的：butterflies in stomach

它指的是to feel very nervous and restless（讓人感到緊張，坐立不安，忐忑的感覺）

這個習語用作“緊張”的意思，最早出現在1943年，

The phrase, as we use it today was first used in 1943 by Bill Gardener describing his first training jump as a paratrooper:

"I landed all right and although I’ll always have butterflies in my stomach every time I go up …"
