One day, a high official wanted to amuse himself in a temple.
一天，有一個大官，要到寺院裏去遊玩。
His subordinates notified the monks in the temple three days in advance to prepare a good mealon time.
他的手下人便在三天前就通知寺院裏的和尚，準時備好飯菜。
So all the monks in the temple busied themselves with the preparation.
於是，寺院裏所有的和尚，都忙着張羅了起來。
The temple was situated in a remote mountain,surrounded by bamboo groves,and verytranquil.
寺院坐落在深山裏，四面都是竹林，的確非常清靜。
After the high official had strolled about for a while, he was very pleased.
大官遊玩了一番之後，非常高興，
While dining, he recited lines from a poem of the Tang Dynasty:
一面吃飯，一面吟起了唐人的詩句:
“Passing through the bamboo courtyard and meeting a monk,A half day’s leisure is gained inthis fleeting life.”
“因過竹院逢僧話，又得浮生半日閒。”
When the old monk heard these lines of the poem, he couldn’t help laughing.
老和尚聽了詩句，不覺笑了起來。
The high official asked hastily:“What are you laughing about?”
大官連忙問道:“你笑什麼?”
The old monk replied:“Your Honour have indeed gained a half day’s leisure, but I have beenbusy for three whole days.”
老和尚回答道:“您老人家固然清閒了半天，可是我老和尚卻已經忙了整整三天!”
兒童英語寓言故事：翠鳥遷巢In order to avoid calamities, at first the kingfisher always selects a high place to build its nest.
翠鳥起先爲了避免災禍，總是選擇高的地方築巢。
But when the young birds are hatched, it will move to a place a little lower to build its nest.

兒童英語寓言故事：鑿壁移痛A man in a village had a sore on his foot which bled and oozed pus. He couldn’t bear the pain and moaned without stop.
村子裏有一個人，腳上生瘡，流血流膿，痛得難以忍受，不停地呻吟着。
He said to his family:“Be quick! Chisel a hole in the wall!”
他對家裏的人說:“快，你們快把牆壁鑿個洞。”
After the hole was made,he hurriedly stretched his foot into his neighbour’s house.
牆洞鑿成後，他連忙把生着瘡的腳，伸進隔壁鄰居家裏。
His family members asked him:“What is this for?”
家裏的人問他:“這是什麼意思?”
He replied:“Let the pain go to my this way, no matter how painful it is, it doesn’t concern me any more!”
他回答說:“讓它痛到鄰居家裏去吧!這樣，再痛跟我也不相干!”
兒童英語寓言故事：只治"外"科There was a doctor who claimed to be good at treating surgical cases.
有位醫生，自稱擅長治療外科疾病。
One day,a general was struck by an arrow from the enemy on the battlefield. The arrow hadpenetrated into his flesh,so he called for the “surgeon”.
一天，有位武將在戰場上中了敵人的飛箭，箭頭穿進了皮肉。他命人請來了這位“外科”醫生。
The general told him what had happened. The “surgeon” said repeatedly:
武將把情況對這位“外科”醫生一講，他連聲說:
“The treatment is easy! The treatment is easy!”
“好治!好治!”
He took up a pair of sharp scissors,and with a snap cut off the exposed arrow nded over the arrow shaft to the general and said:
只見他拿起一把鋒利的剪刀，“咔嚓”一聲，把露在皮膚外面的箭桿剪掉了。他就把箭桿交給武將，說:
“It's done. Please give me my pay.”
“好了，請你付酬金吧!”
These words left the general not knowing whether to laugh or to cry. He said to the “surgeon”:
武將被他弄得哭笑不得，對“外科”醫生說:
“The arrow head is still in my must get it out quickly.”
“箭頭還留在皮肉裏面，必須趕快取出來呀!
The “surgeon” said:“The arrow head in the flesh is a matter of internal medicine and hasnothing to do with my ‘surgery’”.
”這位“外科”醫生說:“箭頭在皮肉裏面，這是內科的事了，與我‘外科’無關。”
