Two men sit down for lunch in the office cafeteria.
有兩個人坐在辦公大樓的自助餐廳裏吃中餐。
"Hey, whatever happened to Pete in payroll?" oneasked.
“喂，發薪名單裏怎麼沒有彼特，他到底是怎麼了?”其中一人問道。
"He got this harebrained notion he was going to builda new kind of car" his coworker replied.
“他想要打造一種新的車款，不過想法太輕率了。”他的同事回答。
"How was he going to to it?"
“他幹了什麼事?”
"He took an engine from a Pontiac, tires from a Chevy, seats from a Lincoln, hubcaps from aCaddy and, well, you get the idea."
“他把龐蒂克的引擎、雪佛蘭的輪胎、林肯的座椅、開迪的輪軸蓋拼湊在一起，知道了吧?”
"So what did he end up with?"
“那結果怎樣?”
"Ten years in prison."
“要吃十年牢飯。”
關於四年級英語故事短文：酒保，再來一杯!A man walks into a bar. He is obviously drunk and staggers up to the bar, seats himself on a stool and asks the bartender for a drink. The bartender politely informs the man that it appears he is drunk and cannot be served any more alcohol. The bartender offers to call a cab for him.
有個人走進酒吧，一副醉醺醺的模樣搖搖晃晃地走到吧檯，往凳子一坐，向酒吧要杯酒喝。酒保客氣地跟那個人說他看起來已經醉了，不能再給他酒喝，並提議要幫他叫部計程車。
The drunk is briefly surprised, then softly scoffs, grumbles, climbs down from the bar stool, and leaves.
醉漢一時錯愕，隨即輕聲地邊嘲笑邊發牢騷，從吧檯凳子上爬下來走人。
A few minutes later, the same drunk stumbles in the side door of the same bar. He hollers for a drink.
過了幾分鐘，同樣那名醉漢又踉蹌地從同一間酒吧的側門進來，叫喊着要酒喝。
The bartender comes over and refuses service to the man and again offers to call a cab. The drunk looks at the bartender for a moment angrily, curses, and shows himself out the side door.
酒保過來說不能給他酒喝，再次提議幫他叫部計程車。醉漢生氣地看了酒保一陣子，咒罵了一下，從側門離開。
A few minutes later, the same drunk bursts in through the back door of the bar. He sits on the bar stool, and orders a drink. The bartender comes over and reminds the man that he is drunk and will be served no drinks. He then tells him that he can either call a cab or the police immediately.
又過了幾分鐘，同樣那名醉漢從酒吧後門闖進來，坐在吧檯凳子上要點酒喝。酒保過來提醒他說他已經醉了，不能再給他酒喝;接着告訴他，看是要立刻叫計程車還是叫警察。
The surprised drunk looks at the bartender says,"Man!How many bars do you work at?"
醉漢吃驚地看着酒保說：“我的天!你到底在幾家酒吧工作啊?”

小提姆在花園裏用土填着洞，鄰居在柵欄外盯着他看。
Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster wasup to, he politely asked, "What are you up to there,Tim?"
鄰居很想知道這個厚臉皮的小孩在幹嗎，便客氣地問道：“你在那裏忙什麼呢?提姆?”
"My goldfish died," replied Tim tearfully ,withoutlooking up, "and I've just buried him."
“我的金魚死了，提姆連頭都沒擡，”淚眼汪汪地回答：“我剛把它給埋了。”
The neighbor was concerned , "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"
鄰居有點擔心地問道：“埋一條金魚不需要挖那麼大的洞，不是嗎?”
Tim patted down the last heap of earth then replied, "That's because he's inside your cat."
提姆輕拍着最後填上的那堆土，回答道：“那是因爲金魚在你那隻貓的肚子裏。”
