一名美國女子在印度被輪姦

A 30-year-old American woman was gang raped by three men near the northern Indian town of Manali early Tuesday Morning, police officials said.

The woman told police she had accepted a truck driver's offer to take her from the village of Vashisht, where she had been visiting a group of tourist-friends, to her guesthouse in Manali, which is around three miles away. After boarding the vehicle at around 1 a.m., she was raped by three men, including the driver, said Vinod Kumar Dhawan, police superintendent in Kullu, the district where Manali is located.

More than two hours later, the woman was left on a highway. She walked to a bus stop where she was discovered. 'Highway patrolmen first noticed the woman along the stretch of the road. She was screaming for help,' another police official involved in the case said. She was taken to the police station in Manali, where authorities registered a case of rape and abduction at 4:30 a.m., he added.

No arrests have been made nor charges have been filed, Mr. Dhawan said. A few men who had matched the woman's descriptions were detained but quickly released after the woman said they weren't the attackers.

A medical exam confirmed the sexual assault, Mr. Dhawan said, but the woman didn't suffer serious physical injuries. The woman couldn't be reached for comment. Indian law doesn't allow the naming of rape victims without permission from the individual or family members.

Peter Vrooman, a spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, said the embassy was in touch with authorities in Manali, but he declined to comment further.

Manali is a popular destination for backpackers in India, while the village of Vashisht is known for its hot springs. Tuesday's attack comes less than three months after a 39-year-old Swiss tourist was allegedly gang raped while camping with her husband near Orchha, another tourist destination in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Six men were arrested on charges of rape and robbery in that case, and their trial is continuing in a local court in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh. The next hearing is June 6.

那起案件中，已有六名男子被以強姦和搶劫罪名被捕，中央邦Datia區法院正在審理此案，下一次開庭安排在6月6日。
