Four drones flown illegally over Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in Sichuan last Friday forced a total of 58 flights to land at alternative airports, four flights to return, and More than 10 to be canceled. More than 10,000 passengers were stranded at the airport.

The airport resumed normal operations early last Saturday morning.

The flying of drones close to the airport could pose a great threat to aviation safety as the drones could easily be sucked into the engine or crash into an airplane's cockpit window.

Chengdu is a hot spot for illegal drone flights as there are many manufacturers as well as amateurs and professionals who fly drones in the city, an insider said.

Feng Zhenglin, head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, said in March that the administration would introduce a real-name system to regulate the drone industry.

Some experts have suggested regulating drones by attaching GPS systems to their flying control systems, as well as installing defense system at airports to keep flying machines away.
