中國官員稱李娜賽場崩潰因教育缺失

For the Chinese Tennis Association, if Li Na is among the majority, they try to identify why.

對中國國家體育總局網球運動管理中心來說，如果李娜是上述大多數空手而歸的選手之一，他們就得找找原因。

A director from the sport's governing body, Sun Jinfang, was quoted by Xinhua as saying on television that the world No. 8＇s third-round loss at the U.S. Open was a function of her lack of education.

據新華社報道，網球運動管理中心主任孫晉芳在電視上說，世界排名第八的李娜在美國網球公開賽第三輪遭淘汰，這是她教育缺失造成的結果。

'We have seen for a long time that Li Na can suddenly collapse. Why is this? Because athletes like her have not received a good education,' Sun said in an interview. 'Li Na has made the choice to concentrate on tennis from a very early age but a very important piece in her education has been missing.'

孫晉芳在接受採訪時說，有沒有感覺到李娜經常會崩潰，這是爲什麼呢？因爲她從小沒有受到良好的教育。孫晉芳說，李娜從小就選擇了網球，她的教育這一塊是缺失的。

Sun said that as a result of focusing on sport from a young age, the nation's most successful tennis player had not developed enough mentally. 'Without good education, the sportsmen or sportswomen are just like well designed computers with ill-suited software, impossible to perform their best,' she added.

孫晉芳說，由於從小就打網球，這位中國最成功的網球選手心理髮展得不夠全面。她還說，就好比我們買了很好的電腦，但是軟件跟不上的話，電腦就發揮不了作用。

Li joined the professional tennis circuit at the age of 17, later than many of her peers, but three years later, took time out to complete a bachelor's degree from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Other players, including those who begin on the junior circuit like Roger Federer, enter a part-time or correspondence program as early as the age of 12 to allow greater focus on tennis.

李娜17歲開始參加職業網球比賽，比很多同齡選手都要晚，但三年後她中斷打球去華中科技大學完成了本科階段的學習。其他選手則早在12歲就進入了非全日制或函授課程，以便更多地專注於打網球，其中包括費德勒(Roger Federer)這樣從青少年組比賽開始的選手。

It wasn't the first time a Chinese official has come up with a unique explanation for Li's on-court performance. In July last year, after Li took the French Open crown to become the first Chinese tennis player to win a Grand Slam singles title, the Communist Party chief in her home province of Hubei, Li Hongzhong, credited China's political system.

這並非中國官員第一次對李娜的場上表現給出獨樹一幟的解釋。去年7月，在李娜奪得法國網球公開賽女單冠軍、成爲第一位贏得大滿貫單打冠軍頭銜的中國選手後，她老家湖北的省委書記李鴻忠將李娜的勝利歸功於中國的政治制度。

'Li winning the French Open was a showcase of her competitive strength as well as demonstration of the superiority of socialism with Chinese characteristics under the leadership of the Communist Party of China,' he said.

李鴻忠說，李娜勇奪法網女單冠軍，充分展示了李娜同志個人的競技實力，更是中國共產黨領導下中國特色社會主義制度優越性的一個體現。

Tensions between Li and the tennis federation haven't improved in recent months, after they entered her into the London 2012 Olympic doubles event without her approval.

網球運動管理中心沒有徵得李娜的同意就爲她報了2012年倫敦奧運會網球女雙比賽，近幾個月來李娜與網球運動管理中心之間的緊張關係一直沒有改善。

'Last time I played doubles was during the 2007 Australian Open,' she told Chinese press at the time. 'I hope they could respect athletes more…the way they handled this makes me uncomfortable,' added the 30 year-old.

李娜當時對中國媒體說，上一次我參加雙打比賽是在2007年澳大利亞網球公開賽上。30歲的李娜還說，我希望他們尊重一下運動員，他們這種操作方式讓我很不舒服。

Chinese Tennis Association will be hoping Li's mental strength can be buoyed by her new coach Carlos Rodriguez, who guided Justine Henin to seven Grand Slams.
