馬鞍是放在馬背上供人騎的器具。
錯誤譯文：
A saddle is a utensil put on horseback for a person to ride on.
正確譯文：
A saddle is a seat put on horseback for a person to ride on.
翻譯加油站：
問題出在“器具”二字。馬鞍實際上是個坐位，不妨將utensil改爲seat。 utensil經常用在cooking utensil(烹飪用具), kitchen utensil(廚房器具)等與“吃”有關的搭配中，與坐位相聯繫是不妥的。
漢語成語“工欲善其事，必先利其器”，可以譯爲 A workman who intends to do a good job must first sharpen his tools. 英語有句意境類似的諺語：A bad workman quarrels with his tools. 其字面意思是：“笨拙的工匠幹不好活賴工具不好使”。不妨簡單譯爲：人笨賴刀鈍。
漢語的“工具”、“用具”和“器具”，英語的對應詞有tool, implement, instrument, utensil, appliance 等。tool 一般指用手操作的簡單工具，像farm/farming tool(農具), garden/gardening tool(園藝工具)。 例如：
1. 螺絲刀、錘子和刀子都是工具。
Screwdrivers, hammers and knives are all tools.
2. 犁是農具。
A plough is a farm/farming tool.
implement一般也用來指用手操作的工具，像farm/farming implement(農具), garden/gardening implement(園藝工具), household implement(家用器具), fire-fighting implement(消防用具)。 例如：
3. 鐵鍬是農具
A spade is a farm/farming implement.
4. 滅火器是消防用具。
A fire extinguisher is a fire-fighting implement.
5. 人類早的工具是由石頭和骨頭鑿成的。
Man’s earliest implements were carved from stone and bone.
instrument 指與科技相關的精密工具，像 medical instrument(醫療器械), surgical instrument(外科器械), optical instrument(光學儀器)。例如：
6. 手術刀是外科器械。
A scalpel is a surgical instrument.
7. 顯微鏡是光學儀器。
A microscope is an optical instrument.
utensil 有兩層意思。一是用手操作的“工具”或“用具”，像 writing utensil(書寫工具), household utensil(家用器具), gardening utensil(園藝工具)。二是容器和器皿形式的“器具”，像cooking utensil(烹飪用具), kitchen廚房器具(kitchen utensil)。 例如：
8. 鋼筆和鉛筆是書寫工具。
Pens and pencils are writing utensils.
9. 他購置了所需的全部園藝工具，包括鐵鍬和鋤頭。
He bought all the gardening utensils he needed, including spades and hoes.
10. 壺和鍋是烹飪用具。

appliance 指以煤氣和電爲動力的器具，像gas appliance(煤氣竈), electrical appliance(電器), domestic appliance(家用電器), kitchen appliance(廚房電器), heating appliance(電暖氣), office appliance(辦公用具)。例如：
12. 我們的煤氣竈定期維修。
Our gas appliances are serviced regularly.
13. 洗衣機和洗碗機是家用電器。
Washing machines and dishwashers are electrical appliances for the home.
14. 這個廚房充滿了家用電器。
The kitchen is full of electrical appliances.
15. 打印機、複印機和傳真機是現代辦公用具。
Printers, photocopiers and fax machines are modern office appliances.
