背景信息:小A自學了幾個月託福,臨近考試,想再突擊一下,開始跟我學習託福閱讀。

我:感覺經過這幾個月的學習,閱讀水平有提升嗎?

A:有,感覺好多了,文章讀的比以前明白了,做題速度也快了。

我:詞彙量有提升?

A:嗯嗯,詞彙特別明顯,我這幾個月一直在背單詞,現在生詞少多了。

我:那句子呢?

A:你之前讓我標讀不懂的句子,每篇文章都能找出三四個句子,現在句子現在基本都能讀懂了。

曾經的我,特別單純,問到這裏已經開始竊喜了:雖然這一切都是小A自己的努力的結果,但是將來出分了,功勞全都會算在我頭上,哈哈哈哈哈哈哈!!!!!!

現在我成熟了,扶了一下眼鏡,接着問:

我:做題正確率有進步嗎?以前每篇錯幾道題?現在每篇錯幾道題?

A露出尷尬的微笑:以前每篇錯4,5個吧,現在好像還是4,5個。

其實我在家長反饋羣裏看到了最近模考記錄,平均每篇錯6道題。但是學生這麼說並不是故意撒謊,而是出於人類美化自己的天性,可以理解。關鍵是答題正確率一點沒進步,卻感覺自己英語水平已經突飛猛進,這讓我非常擔憂。很多學生都有這種幻覺,有些學生甚至考完試都還沒醒悟過來呢。拿着成績單來找我申訴:“老師,這不可能,肯定是給我批錯了,閱讀13分你敢信嗎?” 我很想告訴他:“你考個位數我都敢信。”

跑偏了,接着提問。

我:好,接下來先來檢查一下你整理的生詞,都背過了是吧?

A面露難色:背倒是背過了,就怕現在已經忘了。(還沒檢查呢,已經開始找藉口了,不是好兆頭,雖然學霸們也會這麼說,但是他們只是爲了顯得謙虛。)

檢查結果慘不忍睹,10個單詞錯8個,學生很尷尬,不顧自己感受開始安慰我,被我強行打住。

我:下面我們來講講你的錯題,錯題都搞明白了是嗎?(這兒我是明知故問,因爲之前已經問過好多次了,學生都說沒問題)

A:嗯,都明白了。

我:好,你來講一下第2題吧,爲什麼選A?

A:@#¥%……&_)——!~_,所以選A。

我:我跟你說實話吧,這道題小站解析錯了,其實選B。

A:對嘛,我之前就是選的B,但是解析寫的是A,唉~,我就是太相信解析了。

我:好的,那你來解釋一下B吧。

A:讀完這一段自然就選出來了嘛~

我:好的,那你把這段內容給我翻譯一下吧。

A:(沉默了一會)老師,我讀是能讀懂,但是吧,表達不太出來,反正就是那個意思。

我:好的,那你來分析一下最後兩句話之間是什麼關係。

A:呃,是解釋關係?

我:說實話,你覺得這兩句話有關係嗎?

A:其實沒什麼關係,說的根本就不是一回事。

我:那你看最後一句話爲什麼有also。

A: 哦哦哦,我明白了,是並列關係,上一句話說C導致A,這一句話說B也導致了A。並列嘛

我:是不是進一步解釋了A,正好對應B選項。

A:對嘛,剛纔我就是這麼想的。

我花了10分鐘,也沒能讓A意識到,其實這道題他一開始根本不會。這就是他學了這多長時間根本沒有進步的原因。

讀完一篇文章,哪怕你就只認識了一個新單詞,搞懂了一個新的句式結構,掌握了一種新的修辭手法,也算是進步了。

但是很多同學呢,都做了100篇文章了,一個新句式也沒掌握,一種新的修辭手法也沒學會。

其實每遇到一個不懂的句子,就是一次進步的機會,掌握了這個句式,英語水平就往前進了一步。可惜很多人意識不到文章中很多句子自己沒讀懂,所以英語始終原地踏步。

同樣的,他也意識不到很多自己做錯的題,其實根本沒搞懂。解析說該選A,他覺得A特別有道理,如果我告訴他其實應該選B,他也覺得對對對,確實選B。如果我再告訴他其實B也不對,C選項最好。他也會說,確實是C最好,對應到第5行嘛,我其實一開始就想選C來着。三種解析他都看懂了,也就意味着這道題他根本不懂。但是他意識不到自己不懂,所以只能原地踏步。

這就涉及到英語學習方法論的問題了。簡單總結就是八個字,“刻意練習,微小改進。”

爲什麼你做了100篇文章沒有進步呢?因爲只有“練習”,沒有“改進”。你都意識不到自己的問題,怎麼改進呢。

這時候,老師的作用就體現出來了。我來幫你改進,我來告訴你,其實few這個詞你理解錯了,它不表示少數,它是否定詞表示沒有。我來告訴你anxiety gift shopping causes for consumers.

這句話你理解錯了,gift shopping causes for consumers是修飾anxiety的定語從句,有時候定語從句會省略that連接詞。我來告訴你這道題你沒搞懂,修辭題考察句間邏輯,這兩句話的邏輯關係你沒有分析出來。also表示並列關係,這兩句話共同支持前文的觀點。

這樣,你每做一篇文章,英語水平就會往前挪一小步。

託福閱讀的三步破題法

託福閱讀中完全可以不要熟悉原文,只要你會分析主謂賓,就可以選出。但是在託福閱讀中這種方法只針對結構爲總分結構的文章纔有效(佔50%的考題),需要特別注意。託福閱讀中首先大家得知道這題主要考察的是文章的MAIN IDEA和文字的SUB IDEA,對文章的TOPIC沒有一點解題關係。

解題步驟:

託福閱讀第1步:區分TOPIC/MI(黑體句)

TOPIC:概念/研究對象。(可從文章的題目看出)

MI:作者對TOPIC的看法/結論/發現/關係/描述/意圖。(僅對TOPIC做解釋的選項通常是錯的)

託福閱讀第2步:回原文定位MI.

MI:前三段的段首或者段末出現。

具有以下特點:a,轉折句。(HOWEVER,BUT等) b,設問句。(自問自答) c,首段末句—》結論,科學發現。 d,因果句。 e,明顯分類描述/明顯數量概述/複數名詞。

託福閱讀第3步:各段的首句/各段的開始部分—sub idea。

4.篩選答案。(技巧)

1)的統一改寫。(概括性語言)

2).對MI的支持。支持:重現MI的完整關係,概念對應展開!

3)分清主謂賓!重點!!!

把給出的黑體字句子的主謂賓列出來~簡單的列爲_(主語)+_(謂語)+_(賓語)。

則可以把所有的MI句子寫成一個數學的函數表示公式:

MI: F(x)=A(x[主語])+B(x[謂語])+C(x[賓語])

則那麼所有的SI爲MI公式的一個根:

SI:F(1)=A(1[主語的分支])+B(1[謂語動詞不變或者爲同義詞])+C(1[賓語不變])。

則那麼下面給出的6個選項只要按照SI的公式對應比較就能知道是否爲正確答案,無需知道文章說了什麼,只要分析選項的主謂賓是否是對MI的一個分支的擴展,並且造成的結果一樣就能選出正確的答案了。

例子:

OG第一篇閱讀:THE ORIGINS OF CETACEANS的13-14題。

這道題的MI黑體字句子是:this passage discusses fossils that help to explain the likely origins of cetaceans-whales,porpises,and dolphins.

分析主謂賓可以知道:fossil(主語)+help to explain(謂語)+origins of cetaceans(賓)

然後看答案。

nt discoveries of fossils have helped to show the link between land mamals and cetaceans.

很容易的劃出主幹: fossils(主語的分支) +helped to show(謂語動詞理解一樣) +the link(賓語一致)

所以1正確。

discovery of A__ provided evidence for a whale that lived both on land and at sea.

劃出主幹:A_x(化石,又是MI主語的分支)+ provided evidence (謂語動詞理解一樣)+賓語

所以2也正確。

ils thought to be transitional forms between walking mammals and swimming whales were found。

主幹:fossils(MI主語的分支)+were found(因爲找到所以提供的證據,幫助理解,和MI謂語動詞理解一樣)

所以5也正確。

在託福閱讀當中,對於初學者來說最難的不是單詞,而是考試時間不足,因此很多同學在一開始做託福閱讀的時候,十分不適應託福的時間限制,有的人甚至在考前都沒有克服這個問題,所以在考前找到一個適合自己的託福閱讀方法是至關重要的。

As Philadelphia grew from a small town into a city in the first half of the eighteenth century, it became an increasingly important marketing center for a vast and growing agricultural hinterland.

Market days saw the crowded city even More crowded, as farmers from within a radius of 24 or more kilometers brought their sheep, cows, pigs, vegetables, cider, and other products for direct sale to the townspeople. The High Street Market was continuously enlarged throughout the period until 1736, when it reached from Front Street to Third. By 1745 New Market was opened on Second Street between Pine and Cedar. Along with market days, the institution of twice-yearly fairs persisted in Philadelphia even after similar trading days had been discontinued in other colonial cities. Auctions were another popular form of occasional trade. Because of the competition, retail merchants opposed these as well as the fairs. The canopy, the upper level of the trees in the rain forest, holds a plethora of climbing mammals of moderately large size, which may include monkeys, cats, civets, and porcupines.

Smaller species, including such rodents as mice and small squirrels, are not as prevalent overall in high tropical canopies as they are in most habitats globally.

Small mammals, being warm blooded, suffer hardship in the exposed and turbulent environment of the uppermost trees. Because a small body has more surface area per unit of weight than a large one of similar shape, it gains or loses heat more swiftly. Thus, in the trees,where shelter from heat and cold may be scarce and conditions may fluctuate, a small mammal may have trouble maintaining its body temperature.

Small size makes it easy to scramble among twigs and branches in the canopy for insects,flowers, or fruit, but small mammals are surpassed, in the competition for food, by large ones that have their own tactics for browsing among food-rich twigs.
