今天我們要介紹的幾個習慣用語都包含同樣的意思。那就是：一個人有足夠的錢讓他過舒適的生活，享受種種樂趣。

1. riding the gravy train 獲得不費力而賺大錢的職位(或機會)，輕易地賺大錢

Riding the train就是乘火車，那麼，gravy在這裏又是什麼意思呢?Gravy這個詞的原意是肉汁，也就是煮肉時鍋裏的肉湯。但是在這個習慣用語裏，gravy就不是具體的肉湯了，而是指在勞動所得，或者是實際需要以外還有很多財富。要是你ride the gravy train, 那就是說你沒有花多大代價，或者根本就沒有付出勞動而得到很多錢財。

下面一個例子說的是美國西部某個州的一個家庭。這個家庭擁有一個小農場，可是那裏的土地並不適合種莊稼。但是後來他們在沙土底下發現了石油。這可是他們連做夢都沒有想到的。

2. fat city 興旺;生活優裕

Fat在中文裏就是胖，city就是城市。但是，fat city，作爲一個習慣用語，和這兩個單詞的原意沒有直接的關係。要是說：You are in fat city，那就是說你有足夠的錢讓你生活得非常舒適，在經濟方面沒有任何擔憂。我們來舉一個例子。

這是一個人在說他的朋友Jennie。Jennie是一個年輕的女子，她在一個廣告公司做得非常成功。

例句-2：Jennie started work in our company as a junior administrative assistant. But in the last 12 years she's done so well she's now vice president. If you see the house she owns and the carshe drives you can tell she's in fat city, but she's worked hard for it.

3. life of Riley 安逸的生活，無憂無慮的日子

Riley是愛爾蘭人用的名字，在美國很普遍。誰也不知道Riley到底是個什麼人。可是我們知道一首歌裏有Riley這個名字。這首歌講的是一個神祕的愛爾蘭人，他突然，出乎意料之外地變得非常富有。

下面我們來舉個例子。說話的人告訴我們，一個名字叫Joe的人買了一個新建立的公司的股票。這個公司規模很小，但是在電腦還很新奇的時候，它就開始設計電腦軟件。Joe由於買了這個公司的股票而賺了很多錢。

例句-3：In a few years the value of the stock soared and Joe sold out with enough to retire on. Now he leads the life of Riley - he's always off to Paris or Hong Kong, stays in the best hotels, eats in the best places and samples all the pleasures of life.
