Okay, so recently I’ve been watching “Power” – a TV series about a guy who comes from a poor neighborhood and makes a lot of money selling drugs – and then he decides that he wants to go legit; he wants to leave his past behind and make a legitimate business with his nightclub Truth. So, the series follows the problems he and his family have to face while trying to get out of the drug business and make a legal living running clubs. Obviously, it’s not as easy as it might sound – because all his old friends still try to involve him in drug trafficking, and there always seems to be some crisis or something which stops the guy from simply making a clean break and starting afresh.

A friend of mine recommended the series; I hadn’t heard of it before, but I gave it a try. Watching a couple of episodes, and I kind of liked it. Each episode has good pacing, and the characters are interesting enough to hold your attention. The plot is also quite well written and has just enough twists and turns to keep you wondering what will happen next. Another thing I like about it is that the things that happen are credible; they’re not fantastically impossible scenarios like in some TV series – you can actually imagine how such circumstances might occur in real life and how these people would deal with them. So, the main characters are a guy called Jaimie and his wife Tasha and their two children, and Jaimie’s ex-drug partner Tommy Egan, who is still involved in the drug business. The other main character is government lawyer, Angela Valdez, who has an affair with Jaimie while the special task force she is a member of is trying to prosecute Jaimie and Tommy for drug related crimes. There are some other characters which recur throughout each episode, people who work in the club and other friends and contacts that appear repeatedly throughout the series.

It’s now in season four, although I haven’t watched this current season yet – I watched up until the end of season three, so I guess I’ll catch up with it when I have some more free time. I like watching the episodes all at once rather than one each week. But it’s one of the best TV series I’ve seen for a while – the fact that the time flies past while watching it is always a good sign that it’s enjoyable.

面對這場沒有硝煙的戰爭，作爲參戰的一分子的你做何感想?我們是束手無措、坐以待斃抑或是奮起抗爭，用奮鬥去征服呢?

要征服，你需要的是自信勇氣、知己知彼並全力以赴，這些要素相互依託、缺一不可。

1.自信勇氣

世上無難事只怕有“信”人!信，是自信，更是信念。只有堅信自己能夠成功的時候做事才能義無反顧，不論面對任何艱難險阻都能迎難而上，問題也會迎刃而解。切記，問題有一個，解決問題的方法卻有若干種。生活中不是隻有雅思和出國的，不過當這些事情擺在你面前的時候，不要低頭，相信自己，勇往直前。雅思不是考試，口語考官不會以及格與否評定你的表現，只會根據你與考官間的對話以及你“個人秀”中的發揮和表現作爲衡量的標準給予相應的分數。這個分數在很大程度上能夠反應出你的真實英語口語交流能力。所謂的“發揮失常”僅限於考試使用，而雅思，被反覆強調是“系統”有連貫性和穩定性，個體差異性較小，有利於更好地表現英語功底和實力。

讓我們先來談談“己”，你瞭解自己的英語學習習慣嗎?你的強項和弱項都在哪裏自己清楚嗎?你能保證不害羞不怕出錯的在其他人面前展現自己的英語口語能力嗎?不論你是綜合型的還是偏科型的學員，總有自己更需要提高的方面。你首先需要做的就是一個英語能力的測試，充分了解自己的強項與弱項分別在哪些方面。然後制定一個爲你量身打造的個性化學習計劃。充分的利用該個性化學習計劃能夠事半功倍的輔助學習，有效提高能力與成績。

　　雅思口語中較難話題如何巧妙應對

一、“硬碰硬”，真金不怕火煉

對於備考時間較長(半年或以上)的考生，建議大家本着務實求真的精神，徹徹底底將口語基礎打牢。切記，口語和寫作都是真正揭曉實力的兩門，絕不能依仗技巧取勝。有經驗的考官不會完全照讀考題，而是會爲你“量身定做”(Tailor-made)順勢出題，所以如果完全是所謂的技巧搭起來的空中樓閣的話，註定會不攻自破。因此，一定要充分利用這段較長的備考期，多開口，勤練習，進行實戰模擬，讓自己的口語有質的提高。

二、由難到易，化繁爲簡

一定的實力基礎固然必不可少，但雅思口語成績的提高也不是完全沒有捷徑可走。聰明的考生能做到揚長避短，迎合評分要求回答，在短短的十來分鐘內包裝自己的語言，有更好的發揮。下面將介紹三種化繁爲簡的方法，供大家參考。

第一招：減少描述，增加議論

縱覽各類卡片題，發現一個共同的關鍵詞，即Describe, 如Describe a teacher who has greatly influenced you(人物題)，Describe an object you use everyday(物品題)，Describe a shop you often go to(地點題)，Describe a family event(事件題)。很多考生會集中精力去思考如何Describe，所以在人物題中會試着用很多語言去描述外貌特徵，如大大的眼睛，長長的睫毛，粉粉的臉頰，厚厚的嘴脣。且不論該考生是否都能將這些中文描述對應的恰當英文找到，除非是口語基礎相當不錯的考生，不然挑這些內容去講無疑是搬起石頭砸自己的腳。人物題還算是比較容易描述的了，那碰到物品題描述一個家用電器怎麼辦，如何去Describe?以a washing machine爲例，我們能想到的內容可能是顏色，Its color is white. 大小，It’s one meter high. 別的似乎沒什麼可講的了。這個時候就可以增加議論或評價。對於顏色，可以添加的內容是The reason why I chose this color is that it matches well with my bathroom and besides, white has always been my favorite color. It’s clean. You know. 而對於大小，也可評價一番It is actually the smallest size at that time. I put it in the corner, and it takes only a little space.

由此可見，評價性的語言通常比描述更爲具體，可以看做是對前一句的補充說明或者是例證拓展。這種對於每一點信息都要給出議論的習慣一定要養成，可以使我們的說話內容頓時翻倍。

第二招：變抽象爲具體

很多考生覺得雅思口語話題難，就是因爲沒話說，特別是看似較爲抽象的話題，如Describe a success。總覺得success肯定是較爲光鮮的事蹟，對照自己似乎找不到素材。其實如果把success具體化，看作是successfully did sth，構思就會容易許多。可以講成功地網上交友、購物，與網絡話題結合，可以講成功地交到一個知心益友，與朋友話題相結合。又如part 3中的一些抽象問題，如How has technology changed people’s life? 如果單單從較高層面總的去概括科技如何改變生活會覺得語言內容上頻頻受限，而換個角度，如果把change具體化，舉自己的家庭爲例，講起來就順口多了。Well, technology did change our life a lot. Take my family as an example, ten years ago, we used electric fan in hot summer but now the air-conditioning brings us more comfort.

第三招：扭轉乾坤，話題巧轉移

短短的十幾分鍾時間內，講自己有準備的話題內容肯定比臨場發揮好，至少在語言質量上能略勝一籌。再次強調，口語考試重形式而非內容，只要能巧妙自然地將拿到的話題轉到自己覺得熟悉的內容上來，必定會有更好的效果。

如A piece of good law，這個難倒了衆多考生的殺手題觸及到我們較爲不熟悉的領域——法律。而轉身一想，法律其實是無所不在的，建議考生可以將其轉移爲環境問題，所以可以去講“限塑令(The new standard of plastic bags)的制定和執行;亦可轉換成工作問題，講“勞工法”(The Labor Law)。
