■“This is him.”意思是“我就是(你找的那個‘他’)”，如果打電話的人要找的是一位女性，那麼接聽的人則可以說 “This is her.”。

“What time and where?”的意思是“什麼時候，在哪裏?”。
也可以 說成“When and where...”。
例如：When and where did you see him?(你什麼時候在哪裏見到的他?)

據說，在中國駐某國大使館裏曾經發生過因用英語接電話時表達不當而致使外國人惱火的事情：
一次，某國一位很知名的醫學專家下班時向使館簽證處打電話詢問：
“Excuse me, is that Chinese Embassy?”(請問，這是中國大使館嗎?)
當時簽證官不在，一名英語不太好的工作人員在接電話時隨口便按照漢語表達習慣問道：“Who are you?”
那個外國專家聽了以後，感覺像在被人審問，但還是報出了姓名：
“This is Doctor John speaking. I’m calling from Royal Hospital.”
(我是約翰醫生，我是從皇家醫院打來電話的。)
這位工作人員緊接着又問了一句：“Who do you want?”
本來想問：你想找誰呀?但實際意思卻是：你想要誰?像是人質談判。
正確說法應是：“Whom would you like to speak to?”，那位醫生說：
“Excuse me, may I speak to the visa official please?”
(麻煩你，我想找一下籤證官。)
那位工作人員說簽證官不在，接着問：“What do you want?”
本來想問：請問您有什麼事嗎?但卻表達成：你想要什麼?這是準備吵架的語氣。那位專家儘管感覺這話問得有些奇怪、刺耳，但還是回答說：“I want nothing but Chinese visa.”(我其他什麼也不想要，只想要去中國的簽證。)並且還表達了希望儘快申辦去中國的簽證，但正遇到困難，希望使館幫助解決。
那位工作人員馬上很關心地問他：“What’s the matter with you?”
本來想問：你有什麼問題或困難?但實際意思是：你怎麼啦?你哪兒不舒服?
正確問法應是：Is there anything difficult for you?(你有什麼困難嗎?)
那位專家聽了以後頓時非常惱火地說：
“I’m very well. I have nothing wrong at all.”
(我很好，什麼毛病也沒有。)
這位工作人員的英語表達失誤、失禮的根本原因，就是在說英語時不知不覺地套用了漢語的表達習慣，這是中國人常犯、易犯的錯誤
