雅思寫作高分範文評點:Stress

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Is Stress A Bad Thing?

You should write at least 250 words. You should use your own ideas of knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

“I can’t understand the pressure and competition,” explained one friend of mine when asked why he decided to quit his highly-paid but demanding position in his company recently. My friend may have his own reasons, but I don’t think his decision is wise in reAlity.

It’s true that my friend’s case is not unique. In the last few years quite a number of men and women have chosen to do something less competitive at the cost of a comfortable, easy life a highly-paid job can obtain. They are afraid that the stresses and strains of work will rob them of joy and happiness and do them harm both physically and mentally. In fact, however, stress isn’t the bad thing it is often supposed to be. Unless it gets out of control, a certain aMount of stress is vital to provide motivation and challenge, and to give purpose and significance to an otherwise meaningless, idle life. People under stress tend to express their full range of potential and to actualize their own personal worth— the very aim of a human life.

Stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it. What we can do is to develop our adaptive abilities to deal with it rather than to escape from it. (216 words)!

  雅思口語話題分類:壓力篇

Part I

1. Do you have a big pressure now?

I am undergoing a very big pressure right now. As an insurance agent, I am required to hit my monthly quota to be able to get my commission. The economic recession has affected many industries worldwide, which certainly include the insurance business.

2. What do you do to release your pressure?

I do a lot of walking, especially when I am about to start panicking after a series of rejections by my potential clients. Another helpful thing that I do to release stress is to take a swim for an hour or two. I also do painting when I feel stressed out so that my mind would shift to something more peaceful.

3. What kind of pressure do you have?

I feel the heavy pressure of being the only bread winner for a family of seven people. As if this is not enough, I also have the pressure of having to deal with an irritable, nagging and demanding wife. Three of my children are of poor health and they catch fever every three months. Times are very hard nowadays, and in my case, I tend to spend much more than I am able to earn.

Part II

Describe a big pressure that you had.

You should say:

What was the pressure;

When you had this pressure;

Why you had this pressure.

And explain how you dealt with this pressure.

I remember in my mid-twenties, I once agreed to be a guarantor for a friend of mine who wanted to borrow money from another friend. What I did was really not advisable but because I have known my needy friend since childhood, I trusted that she would borrow the money in good faith. Little did I know that this needy friend of mine had already planned to run away from the country as long as she got hold of the cash. When it was collection time, my debtor friend angrily went to my place. She was so furious that she almost knocked my door down as soon as she arrived. She grabbed my collar until I was already choking and red in the face. At that time, I was not yet aware of the deception that was going on between my two friends so I did not really understand what she was talking about. When I finally realized what had happened, my debtor friend was demanding me to repay the money for my needy friend. At that time, I felt the biggest pressure and burden of my life because the amount of the debt was nearly seven digits. Because of this, I took a lot of risks to invest as a stock holder in one of my friend's companies that made me earn the amount needed to pay the huge debt in six months' time.

Part III

1. Do you think that young people are having more pressure now?

All kinds of people face different kinds of pressure in different stages of their lives. Even little children have their own pressures in their school life. As these young kids grow up, their challenges and pressures in life will also be increasing. These problems tend to get bigger and heavier as a person reaches maturity.

2. What do you think is the best way to prevent having much pressure?

One basic step to prevent having too much pressure is by not sweating the small stuff. Sometimes, we make a fuss about very small troubles, and they become truly big because of how we view them. Another way to prevent having too much pressure is by not bearing all the burdens on your shoulders alone. Try to find someone who can take some of the load.

3. What is the difference between the pressure of young people and adults?

Most young people are really stressed out these days because of their grades in school or peer pressure. Some of them are burdened with unwanted pregnancies or poor family background. Adults usually bear the heavy burden of having to earn enough money to survive and make ends meet.
