點滴英語天天學第11課:nod(2)

在今天的課堂上，我們來學習關於nod的一個用法。我們要表示朝著某個方向點頭來表示所談論的人或物，該如何運用它來表達呢？我們來看下面的例句：

e.g. I asked where Steve was and she nodded in the direction of the kitchen. 我問史蒂夫在哪兒，她朝著廚房點了點頭。

e.g. She nodded towards the drawing room and answered he was in there. 她朝客廳方向揚了揚頭，回到到他在那裡面。

在Example-1中，nodded in the direction of the kitchen的意思是“朝著廚房點點頭”，nod後面跟介詞短語：in the direction of。它的意思是“朝著……的方向”。For example：He was seen setting off on horseback in the direction of Tarley. （我們看到他騎著馬往塔萊那方向出發。）He looked out of the window in the direction of the woodman's gaze.（他順著樵夫那專注的目光向窗外看去。）聯絡第一個分句來看，我們可以知道：她朝著廚房點點頭是因為當時候的情景是在談論Steve在哪兒。

在Example-2中，nodded towards the drawing room的意思是“朝著客廳的方向點點頭”，nod後面跟介詞短語短語，towards the drawing room。聯絡第二個分句來看，我們可以知道：她朝著客廳點點頭是因為當時的情景是某個人問到她“他在哪兒”。

所以，if we want to express “to move your head in the direction of someone or something to show that you are talking about them or it”，我麼就需要在nod後面使用介詞短語或副詞來表示。
