番茄並不是意大利的本土產物

番茄現在是意大利菜的靈魂食材，很難想象沒有番茄的意大利菜，但意大利其實本來沒有番茄。

不過現在它已經無處不在了，而且意大利當地的新鮮番茄吃起來確實不同凡響。

The tomato wasn’t introduced in Italy until the 1540’s. Today it might be hard to believe that tomatoes aren’t originally from Italy, but in fact, it wasn’t until the Columbian Exchange that tomatoes found their way here. There’s something special about the sun-kissed Italian tomatoes, though.

番茄直到16世紀40年代才被引進意大利。現如今很難讓人相信，番茄並非原產於意大利，實際上，直到哥倫比亞交易所問世後番茄纔出現在了這裏。不過這些被太陽親吻過的意大利番茄確實吃起來不一般。
