1.invaluable/valueless

①considerable：great/ much 相當多(大)的

eg：a considerable income 一筆可觀的收入

eg：He met a considerable amount of trouble.

他遇到了許多麻煩。

②considerate：thoughtful 體諒的，體貼的，周到的

eg：It was very considerate of you to send me a birthday card.

你太體貼了，還給我寄來生日卡。
 

2.accident/incident

①accident：突發性的，一般爲不幸事件，即“事故”。

eg：traffic accident 交通事故

②incident：小的變數、插曲，小事件，沒accident那麼嚴重。

eg：an international incident 一次國際事件
 

3.raise/rise

① raise (vt.)：舉起，升起，增加，飼養

eg：Her wages were raised.

她漲工資了。

② rise (vi.)：升起，上升，起牀

eg：The sun rises in the east.

太陽從東方升起。
 

4.intense/intensive

① intense：high in degree 強烈的，劇烈的，高度的

eg：have intense interest in sth 對某事有濃厚興趣

② intensive：deep and thorough 精深的，集中的

eg：intensive training 強化訓練

5.ensure/insure

① insure：保險，給...投保

eg：After signing a contract with a professional baseball team，Jack decided to insure his pitching arm for $1 million.

和職業棒球隊簽約後，傑克決定爲他投球的手臂投保100萬美元。

② ensure：確保

eg：Please ensure (that) all lights are switched off.

請確保將所有燈都關掉。

③當表示"保證"的意思，兩者通用，英國人愛用ensure，美國人愛用insure。

eg：Our precautions ensured/insured our safety.

預防措施保證了我們的安全。
