had better 是一個固定搭配,相當於一個情態動詞。不能用have代替had,因爲它是一種固定搭配.

情態動詞had better和would rather用法比較一、Had better意爲“最好”，後接不帶to的不定式。如：

由於would rather表選擇，因而後可接than。如：
1.I would rather work on a farm than in a factory.
2.I would rather watch TV than go to see the film.
3.I would rather lose a dozen cherry trees than that you should tell me one lie.
4.I'd rather you didn't talk about this to anyone. (句中的'd rather不是情態動詞，would在此是表願望的實義動詞)
注：由於had better同ought to一樣沒有過去式，所以在直接引語變間接引語的過程中，也不再變化.
