口語課堂第163期:別再猶豫了

大家好，歡迎來到可可口語課堂。氣溫在漸漸升高，美麗的南方很多女孩兒穿起了裙子，陪姐妹去逛街，她看上了一條連衣裙，但在考慮該選哪種顏色，糾結了老半天，我有點兒不耐煩了。
For God's sake stop dithering and make up your mind! 看在上帝面上，別再猶豫了，快拿定主意吧！
sake n.理由；緣故；或者 目的；利益
通常使用這樣的結構：for the sake of + 名詞。表示“爲了……起見”。
She changed into old clothes for the sake of comfort.
爲了舒適，她換上了舊衣服。
Don't let your daughter go out in the middle of the night for the sake of her safety .
爲了你女兒的安全起見，不要讓你的她半夜出去。
He is going to live by the coast for the sake of his health.
他爲了自己的健康，打算到海濱地區去居住。
剛說到的for the sake of something也可以用for ...'s sake來表示。省略號之處您可以用很多名詞來代替，注意是名詞。比如：
He loves poetry for beauty's sake. 他因爲詩歌美而喜歡詩歌。
這裏的beauty就是名詞，也是構成他喜歡詩歌的原因
依樣畫葫蘆，“我們爲了方便起見才這麼做”怎麼表達呢？
We did it for convenience's sake. 我們爲了方便起見才這麼做。
For safety's sake, don't drive more than 30 kilometers per hour in the city.
爲了安全起見，在市內開車 時速不要超過三十公里。
安全的形容詞是safe，那注意在剛提到的結構中，我們要填入名詞—safety。
還有一個常用的表達：for god’s sake 看在上帝份上。
For god's sake, don't tell him! 行行好，請別告訴他!
For God's sake stop dithering and make up your mind! 看在上帝面上，別再猶豫了，快拿定主意吧！

有人問，make up one's mind我知道是什麼意思，表示“作出決定，拿定主意”，那dither是什麼意思啊？這個單詞我可不熟。Ok，dither既可以做動詞，也可以做名詞。做名詞表示“抖，發抖”。比如：
The sight of the policeman made the murderer all of a dither.
一見到警察，那個謀殺者嚇得渾身發抖。
在你冷得發抖的時候，你在會想我到底該怎麼辦，是加些衣服呢，還是開空調。開空調很費電，加衣又很麻煩。這樣你就猶豫不決了。這就是dither的第二個意思——猶豫。比如：
He tends to get all of a dither when there are many possible choices.
面臨很多選擇時,他便會猶豫不決。
Dither表示“猶豫”的時候，通常做動詞使用。
Stop dithering about which film you want to see or you'll miss them both!
到底看哪一部影片，別再猶豫了，不然的話，兩部影片你都要耽誤了！
We're still dithering over whether to marry. 我們仍在猶豫要不要結婚。
想說一句話，順便複習一下上一節學到的表達：Don't get married just for the sake it. 不要爲了結婚而結婚。
好啦，現在我們回到開頭提到的句子中：For God's sake stop dithering and make up your mind! 看在上帝面上，別再猶豫了，快拿定主意吧！

我們經常面臨各種各樣的選擇，常常在dither猶豫不決。對於選擇，我想重大的選擇必須謹慎，多猶豫、考慮未嘗不可。但對於小事情，就不要優柔寡斷了。For God’s sake看在上帝面兒上，瀟灑一些、灑脫一些，對自己好一些。今天的節目到這兒告一段落。我們下一期不見不散，拜拜！
