2. strait 和 channel 這兩個名詞均含“海峽”之意。
channel : 指比strait長而寬的海峽。
英吉利海峽：the English Channel
strait : 指短而窄的海峽。
麥哲倫海峽：Strait of Magellan
除此之外，
strait還有一個詞義是：窘迫，困難。
channel還有一個詞義是：頻道。
The company's closure has left many small businessmen in desperate financial straits.
該公司的倒閉讓很多小商人陷入了經濟困境。

3. separating...伴隨動作
現在分詞可以做方式狀語、伴隨狀語，表示行爲方式、伴隨情況或補充說明，是主語的另一個、較次要的動作，相當於一個由and引導的並列結構。
舉例：
She came into the house,and carried a lot of books.
=She came into the house, carrying a lot of books.
她捧着許多書走進了房間。
I go home and hold the umbrella in one hand.
=I go home, holding the umbrella in one hand.
我回家的時候用一隻手拿着一把傘。
一定要記住：一句話裏只能有一個主動詞，次要的動作用-ing形式伴隨主要動作。

《鄉愁》（Nostalgia）是詩人余光中所作的一首現代詩。詩歌表達了對故鄉戀戀不捨的一份情懷。詩歌中更體現了詩人余光中期待中華民族早日統一的美好願望。
余光中的一生是在頻繁的奔波和遷徙之中，多次與親人的聚散離合。1971年，20多年沒有回過大陸的余光中思鄉情切，在臺北廈門街的舊居內寫下《鄉愁》這首詩。該詩情深意切，既渴望了祖國的統一，又將鄉愁描寫的淋漓盡致。正像中國大地上許多江河都是黃河與長江的支流一樣，余光中雖然身居海島，但是，作爲一個摯愛祖國及其文化傳統的中國詩人，他的鄉愁詩從內在感情上繼承了我國古典詩歌中的民族感情傳統，具有深厚的歷史感與民族感。
