哪些情況下不用冠詞a/an/the？大綱

在英語語法中，術語零冠詞（zero article）是指在口語或寫作中，一個名詞或名詞短語前沒有冠詞（a、an或the）。零冠詞也被稱爲零限定詞（zero determiner）。

一般來說，零冠詞與專有名詞、不可數名詞或可數名詞複數連用。此外，在表達交通運輸方式（by plane）或某些時間和地點的慣用表達（at midnight, in jail）時，一般不使用冠詞。

此外，語言學家發現，在新英語變體的區域變體中，省略冠詞通常是表達非特殊性。

美式英語與英式英語中的零冠詞用法

在美式和英式英語中，在“school學校”、“college大學”、“class課堂”、“prison監獄”或“camp夏令營”這些詞使用慣用意義時，前面一般不加冠詞。

The students start school in the fall.

學生們秋天開始上學。

College provides opportunities for students to learn and meet new people.

大學爲學生們提供學習和結識新人的機會。

然而，在美式英語中，有一些名詞前要加定冠詞，在英式英語中則不用。

When I was in the hospital, I often wished there were fewer hours in the day.

零冠詞與可數名詞的複數和不可數名詞

Dogs love to run around outside.

不可數名詞是不能計數的，如air或sadness。
